Should I accept the Co-Ops response in r.e to intimidating incident

They have given me £40 in vouchers, however, I don't feel the offer is satisfying enough, considering the experience I went through with the police being their, the store being extremely packed (convenience store aswell, so everyone could hear what was going on), the manager from where I work at also being there and witnessing what was happening.

This incident happened a week ago, but I am still angry and upset about this incident. The manager who was serving me, didn't even check the vouchers out properly, he says he was scanning them and they weren't working, however upon reading the redeeming the printout of the vouchers, it says, it it does not work, please enter the redemption code manually.

Before calling the police, he called paypoint who even themselves confirmed everything was genuine.

The manager handle the situation really, really badly, I was waiting in the store for over an hour, I missed the birth of my son, because he was pretending to be on the phone to UKASH trying to sort it out, but he turned out he was on the police to the police.

I have spent thousands in the CO-OP they are my weekly shop store, and I spend on average £250 a week in their shops and after this experience I vow never to use their shops again.

I feel like going to the newspapers about this incident, I am not happy with their offer of apologizing with what has happened.

I strongly believe the manager acted the way due to the colour of my skin, and my age.

You missed the birth of your son because you were kept for an extra hour in the store? Was it really so urgent to go to the store so close to this important life event?

The explanation for their suspicion sounds quite reasonable to me.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

If you can prove the store manager was racist and ageist, pursue it. If not, don't make the accusation

People have ended up rich on far less, if you feel they singled you out because of your race then that is disgusting and you should pursue it to the very end with a solicitor.
    Be happy...;)
  • If you feel that the store's response is not acceptable then you might want to seek legal advice - was there any financial loss involved at all? Additionally, did the manager use any language that could be considered racist or ageist (and can you prove he said it?)? Only if you can't prove it - further action legal or otherwise might not be advisable. Additionally if you go to the papers, you may end up looking a bit vindictive or a bit stupid (locally, at least).

I've never used the service, but I have heard it can be used fraudulently, so I'm with this opinion.

I'm in the difficult position where I'm both with the store and the OP on this one, but I do believe that being held up for an hour, £40 is reasonable compensation.

I only intended to be in the shop 10 - 15 minutes max, the process of redeeming the vouchers is very easy indeed, and straightforward, when I went into the shop, I didn't have to wait in a que, the hospital is only another 15 minutes away also, so I didn't expect any issue in redeeming the vouchers and getting back to the hospital on time.

I don't think it was the store response, but the Co-ops head office in the west midlands who investigated it and dealt with it.

The manager did not use any language that was racist and I can't prove he was ageist, but I can tell you know, he smug throughout it all and I bet he wouldn't of called the police if it was a middle age white guy dressed smartly, he most likely would of said there's nothing I can do with these vouchers, they are either fraudulent or they are not working, contact the company in question (UKASH) to find out why.

Tbh, I don't want to go to the newspaper's and I don't think I will as I don't want my face plastered over it as 'some' people might think I'm a trouble maker and potential employers might see this if I go for a job and might think twice of hiring me, even though clearly, I am nothing to be guilty of.

I think I will go back to CO-OP and tell them their offer is not good enough at all.
