Television Licensing

The Public are under no obligation to contact the BBC sales goons, this has already been mentioned in Parliament.
Does it not tell you something when the BBC presume guilty but the law of the land is you are innocent until proven otherwise.....................you think about that!
I've never had a BBC TV Licence, what would be the point in telling them when they state themselves they won't leave you alone and the information you give them will be put on their database and used against you in the future. You might agree with that fascist ideology but I don't, the only people that do spend lots of time defending them, people I have on ignore
What has the above got to do with people saving money on this forum?0 -
Some people seem to think you should pay the BBC no matter what and then say "what does this have to do with a money saving site", the BBC mindset is truly shocking.
If you don't need a BBC TV Licence stop giving them money, it helps fund these typesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

That's going to end well!
To be fair, misleading information on the general topic of when a licence is required is widely available on an Internet forum near you, and from TV Licensing, too.
It's an important point that the BBC/TVL are exceeding their authority in various ways in the operation of the LF scheme. They have no right to information from/about non-licence-holders, for example.
The advice therefore is:
- If you are on a continuous payment plan, you need to tell them if you wish to cancel. Just stopping the DD/cash payments is not enough. In some cases, the accounts have been passed to debt collectors.
- If you buy a licence annually, just not renewing is enough. There is little benefit in informing them.0 -
After 5 months of TV Tax freedom, we are referred to in letters as the Current Occupier!0

I trust the letters end up in the bin.0 -
The point I was making was that if you have a licence and just suddenly stop paying then that is going to raise a flag for them to investigate/harass you.
My in-laws get rid of their TV about 5 years ago, informed whoever (can't remember if it was by phone or post, definitely not email as they don't do technology) and have never had any hassle.0 -

I appreciate that you probably visualise the BBC's process as fair, consistent, lawful - all of those good things. However, virtually no aspect of their process actually stands up to scrutiny. Terms like vindictive, pointless, petty, ineffective, incompetent, bullying, unjust, unfair, unlawful spring to mind.My in-laws get rid of their TV about 5 years ago, informed whoever (can't remember if it was by phone or post, definitely not email as they don't do technology) and have never had any hassle.
It's BBC policy to stop the threatening letters when a household submits a notification, but there's a lot of evidence that that is very unreliable.0 -

Well, which is it?Cornucopia wrote: »There is some evidence that TVL prioritise people who live in higher evasion areas - and therefore de-prioritise other areas.
To be honest, my in laws live in what would be considered a "higher evasion area", poor council estate, high unemployment, etc.0 -

They are just lucky, then.0 -
Or... just maybe, the anti BBC propaganda is overblown and alarmist.
It is the same with everything, you only ever hear from the people who have had an issue, whether justifiably or not. Those who have no issue don't come onto forums to complain.
99% of people have never had a problem, so you don't have them posting on the internet.
Whilst I don't dispute that there are genuine cases for concern, to brand the whole organisation as corrupt (as some people do) is unjustified.
That is like saying that every driver is a complete !!!!!! because there are a few hours worth of dashcam footage, from the millions of hours driven each day, of dicks on YouTube.
Anyway, my final words on the subject.
I pay the TV licence because I watch live TV and enjoy a lot of output by the BBC.
I have never met or know anyone who has had issues with TV licencing. I know of other people who don't pay the TV licence, just because, and "get away" with it.
I have no connection to the BBC or any political bias.
Do I think the TV licence is an anachronism? Probably, technology has moved on to such a degree that it needs changing, but until then it is what I require to watch live TV so I pay for it.0
