There is a lot to be said for smiles and good heartedness.
I went on a conflict resolution course for work a few months ago and what the course taught me was that I naturally avoid and resolve conflict by nipping it in the bud. Everybody else on the course, and the instructor were really surprised! But then everybody else on the course were grumpy so and sos.
There is a lot to be said for smiles and positivity!LBM moment Nov 2013

Aww Hok3y thats a lovely story about your old colleague John
Just look at the difference making that effort made, not only to you, but the whole office. I'm hoping you can work your magic with Miss Nasty Knickers. Something tells me its going to take a whole lot longer than it did with John.
With my team leader it took quite a long time for my new way of looking at her to sink in, I'd say it was a good 6 months before things improved but it gradually got better before that time. Her main problem was her paranoia that no one liked her, and she wasn't wrong lol! Once she realised she could trust me, that's when things really got better. So, I gave her reason to believe I was watching her back and that was the turning point. I work in a busy A&E dept so there's always reason to watch your back these days. I received some very sad news about this colleague yesterday. Her husband died unexpectedly of a cardiac arrest! I really feel for her, she's had a lot to deal with this past few years her son with brain tumour, granchild became seriously ill and almost died but thankfully recovering now, dad died a couple of years ago and now her husband is gone. I have a feeling we won't see her again. I will send her a card and letter though to say I'm thinking of her.
Good luck Hok3y on your new project! I can't wait to hear how you get on. I guess progress will be slow but I'm sure you can do itMake £10 a day challenge Jan £231.630 -
BK, that's an awesome trait to have - I tend to be quite lenient with people and allow for those having a bad day but that's frustrating when you end up in a position like this.
Currently, Miss Difficult is acting like she was never causing problems at all and she has no idea what I am so upset about. This only further irritates me! The opportunity to discuss did not present itself yesterday and today is looking dodgy also but this needs sorting before the end of the week.
Camillia, yeah he was lovely. He actually brought me a little souvenir back from a trip he took to Australia at one point and I can still remember the first time he smiled. It wasn't a full on grin but he let a small sideways smirk out at something cheeky I said to him and from there the floodgates opened. I learned that being cheeky was the way to go and I flat out used to tell him that I'd make him smile one day.Still think about him a lot. Very nice man once you got past all the grumpiness. He was a different person when he left to go back to work in the main building.
In that vein, lovely colleague who has worked here forever and is nearing retirement told me that since I came she has felt that she isn't stupid (this is very sad to me, that other people have this kind of effect on lovely people) and that she can do so much more than she realised. Talk about warm and fuzzy. How absolutely lovely is that?! And I'm no saint nor genius - I just don't treat people badly. She has simply had an oppressive person removed from her team and suddenly she is seeing things so differently. To be fair, it is little to do with me and far more about the removal of some poison - and a small part of me feels quite sorry for the lady who left as I doubt very much that she feels happy in anyway from what I have heard.
Makes you wonder how many people realise that you certainly do choose if you are happy or not a lot of the time.
Anyway, I have digressed a long way from my debt busting! All going well in the HOK3Y household.......until hubby told me last night he needed £235 for his glasses!!!!! Urg!!!! Nearly died!!!! I have teased him no end about being high maintenance - £99 for dental treatment and now this - all in the same month! Ah well, it happens. I can't say he didn't need new glasses so I'm glad he's got them sorted. Thank goodness there's no charge for council tax at the beginning of Feb!
I really want to get to the point where a £200-300 expense doesn't feel like a huge bump in the road. Those kind of hiccups should be absorbed without much of a fuss.
Hope everyone is having a good and productive day. I am looking forward to going home and earning a few more pennies. I even have a few things on Ebay! Whoop! Oh my goodness!!! Does he have a very specialist prescription? My last glasses were free (still have the link if anyone needs) and the ones before that were £30 and they were designer! I would practically die if I had to pay that much for glasses!!LBM moment Nov 2013

Varifocals and he got 2 pairs. I nearly died when he told me. When I got to the shop, the lady said,"well it would have been over £500 without all the discounts..." And I looked at her and said, "Oh no it wouldn't - it would have been 'try again because I'm not paying that'!" I'm fairly sure it wouldn't have been so bad if I had been there at the time but I'm not begrudging it. Well, happy HOK3Y in one respect today as I made a small sale on Ebay which has let me take a few more dollars off the cc - it is now firmly under $650! I have 8 days left in January so let's see how low we can go before February rolls in!
On the rough side, I received a really horrendous voice mail this morning as I waited for my train which meant I arrived at the office fighting tears. Took me a good hour to get a sufficient grip of myself. I'm just truly sick and tired of this particular situation. I am not sure how much more of a kicking I am supposed to take - or how much more I CAN take to be honest.
So my day has already had it's ups and downs - and I am just trying to remain in middle ground before I go home and probably spend the evening in a bit of a mess. There are days when I consider buying a shack in the outer hebrides and refusing to play with civilisation any more. I'm kinda there today. Apparently humans need to be around other humans or they go a little crazy. I'm starting to think that's rubbish!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -

When you get home try to do something to really cheer yourself up, and don't dwell on it too much. Watch something funny and eat something yummy, or hammer clixsense and feel acomplishment as you watch your balance rise!LBM moment Nov 2013

Hi BK, no if it were work related I would have dealt with it. It was to do with my children. Thanks BK. I am very blessed to have an amazing colleague who took one look at me, fetched me a cup of tea, asked no questions but ran interference for me. It's not been the best of days but work was a very welcome distraction. I won't have that luxury at home so need to try to face it.Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0
