Well that should be more interesting than what you're doing now.

    Is it permanent?
Fantastic news about the job .

It's about a 30 minute drive from home but I can look in to moving nearer if I'm happy after a couple of months.

Still a stopgap, or another step along a career?

Its a permanent role, but given the scale of the company as long as I get the required training done and don't make too many major mistakes there are plenty of other jobs to move around divisions within the company.

I didn't mention it as I didn't expect to hear anything until next week but I thought it'd gone well although I was expecting to be offered a trainee or assistant manager role.

Obviously not - seems other people have more confidence in your abilities than you.

And what's this 1am posting on a school night? :naughty:

I tend not to think in terms of the C word, lack of ambition beyond earning enough to live comfortably and enjoying my job are far more important to my mind.

Nope the interviewer told me that I'd hear either next week or when I'm back from my holiday so just thought I'd get on with things and forget about it until she called one way or the other.

I originally applied for an assistant manager job so I expected she'd be interviewing for the same type of role to have dug up my CV again - admittedly that role was at a much bigger site though.

Was posting on my way to bed, I always seem to have a later than planned night after the quiz night.

    So that's why you're a manager now... ;)

Don't worry - the exact same thing happened to me. My family still find it hilarious, and it has been a while...

    That may be why then.

We won the quiz 34/40 which was surprising as most of the time the scores are 37 or 38 for the winning teams. Came second in the picture quiz though so no wine or biscuits this week, just free pints for next week.

Anyway it's too humid which is making me grumpy so am off to see if I can drown people in the pool without anyone noticing. :D

Probably just a difficult one this week.

The pool was pretty quiet, only five of us not taking part in the 'swim fit'* session - although two were taking up a good quarter of the pool while two others clung desperately to the side and I just got on with swimming in the middle by the lane ropes.

*Calling it swim fit is always rather amusing to me as most of them in the fast lane swim alot slower than I do and are in and out of the water while I'm still swimming. How fit can you get swimming a 500m drill set then going home?

Is this an incredibly tiny bathtub, or was it the "Whale" family?

A lot fitter than watching Friday night TV with enough kebab meat to depopulate the local strays' home...

Baby steps - hopefully this will encourage them to greater things. Don't forget, everyone has to start somewhere.

No they were fairly slim people but only swimming backstroke and frankly it looked like they were trying to make 'water angels' their arms were flailing around that much, hence everyone giving them a wide berth.

The swim fit swimmers are the same people every week but they just don't seem to be putting any effort in to the session that gets planned out for them on the white board. I don't expect that everyone can swim as quickly as I do - for a lazy person I've always been a reasonably fast swimmer over longer distances, my sprint times have always been shocking though - but they barely get half way through it before they're getting out and going home.
