Nana's home, I didn't see her yesterday after she arrived as Mum said she was very tired and extremely confused and I didn't want to make things worse.

Popped in and saw her briefly today, she was still very tired but was glad to be home although complaining about not being allowed in to her bedroom, had to bite my tongue when my Aunt suggested that she might be able to get up there again soon. Seems that shes not accepted yet that Nana won't be getting any better.

Booked travel down to London for the weekend away with my friends in December - going for the very cheap option as its only £20 return and not unreasonable times (might be a little painful getting the train to the departure point on the Friday morning if I can't get a lift) but arriving in London about 5pm on the friday and leaving at 4pm on the Sunday. The other options were the slightly more expensive National Express, with similar departure times, or £90 return on the train. Just need to plan outfits and work out the budget now.

Or she believes in telling those little white lies.

There are small lies and telling a 91 year old who wants to just go to sleep and not wake up that she'll be able to walk around unaided enough to get from her sitting room to the stairlift and then from the top of the stairs to her bedroom.

The cheap option was national express at £25.

My plan is to drink Friday and Saturday nights with my friends, I think Saturday day people are doing their own thing so I might try to visit some of the museums I usually miss in favour of drinking.....

I was thinking Natural History rather than Art but there's plenty of time yet to see what people are up to or if they come to a consensus on a group activity - we've talked about doing Duck Tours in the past but usually for the summer meet ups.

It's probably going to be quite cold, especially if you're still used to the heat down there. The Duck tours look good though.

If it snows...well...not only will everything be cancelled, but the world will end too... :rotfl:

Let the world end according to the southerners. I'll be fine, stick my snow and ice grips over my high heels and carry a spare bottle of alcohol to keep defrosting things as necessary ;)
Went in to London once the day it snowed before and had a ball as there were so few people out and about since the tube wasn't running but since you can walk around London fairly easily I really didn't see the problem.

Never have managed to work that one out. Tube doesn't run in the snow even though it's underground.....

Yup - don't want to be all frosty.

I went through London on the train a couple of years ago, the day after the snows completely crippled the South East. I was very eager to see the huge snow drifts and people valiantly battling against Mother Nature.

I was in Lincolnshire before I realised I had in fact seen all 3 inches of it.

W*lk? You said that four-letter w word without any preparation...

The excuse is that some of it is above ground, so they need to close the entire system.

Suggestions such as "just run the underground bits" are akin to sorcery. Don't make them unless you want to be burned at the stake.

And yet the rest of the country manages to run their entirely over ground rail networks in a manner which is only marginally more useless than normal after snow fall.

Sounds about right, I was always amazed when I'd get to work from 8 miles away in my Fiesta and colleagues who to my mind lived within walking distance (ie 4 miles or less) claimed they couldn't get in at all. Especially as the staff transport would run if they could walk to the nearest main road.

The most amusing one was one of the military blokes claiming he couldnt do a vehicle patrol because it was too snowy. The patrol wagon was a 4x4 with winter tyres and snow chains. The camp was always well gritted as 90% of people there would march from place to place and the bit that wasn't was generally the gate areas as no one tended to walk through them and weren't on the patrol routes anyway.

Anyway this is me just home from a meal out, was a friends birthday her partner emailed me this afternoon asking if I wanted to join them as they'd not realised I was home when they originally invited people out. So lovely thai meal with people I've known since I was 14, was an interesting experience being sober with them for a change. Next time I'm told I'll be a puking heap in the gutter when we're finished drinking, which in fairness is pretty typical of nights out with that particular group since most of them are in to home brewing so we tend to end up testing everything made good and bad.

That's because the rest of the country doesn't consider winter to be a 1-in-100 year event.

There you go - using the W word again.

I know people who measure their journeys in inches! They park in front of my gate to visit next door, so I can't get in when I come from work. Parking to the side of my gate would add a whole 2 yards to their journey. Albeit an arduous, gruelling 2 yards.

    One of these days....

Did he have a letter from his mum excusing him duty in Norway?

It's amazing how all these other people manage with just normal cars and normal tyres and just being careful. Of course not being paid if you don't turn up for work seems to add a great deal of traction to those tyres.

Home brewing is good. If you get it right, it's so right. If it's wrong - the slugs get it...
