Had a mug put in my order to. I spotted it just in time. They sent me free one couple of years ago. Put straight in the bin, ugly, far to big and was very heavy. This should be against the law.0

Is there a possibility under the Distant Marketing regulations that you could reject the items they added and make them pay for them to be returned for a refund?
I seem to remember on Watchdog them saying that their lawyers said that they weren't doing anything illegal. Well at least it's immoral. I consider it fraud!
Just think of all the 100's of 1000's of orders they get every year; at £1 extra for every order they must be making a fortune.0 -
Just found this thread after the same thing has happened to me.
I ordered 3 items and paid via paypal as I didn't want to set up an account with sports direct.
I then receive an email saying I'd paid for 4 items?
I then get email from sports direct with a mug (50p charge) and magazine (50p charge) added.
Neither of these do I want nor did I add them to my basket.
UPDATE: Contacted them by email and told them I did not want the mug or magazine and I did not add them to my basket. They replied saying there was an opt out (I paid via paypal so I don't recall seeing it and it should be an opt in in my view but anyway), they refunded me the £1 as a "goodwill gesture".
Thanks to MSE Forum :T for highlighting this naughty approach by Sports Direct and for giving me the bottle to complain and get my £1 back.0 -

I placed an order about a month ago and the mug was added for £1. Fortunately I spotted it then and removed it from the basket. To my astonishment, the mug came anyway, but at least it was free...
Placed an order 2 days ago, it was late night and forgot about their sneaky tactic, found a mug and a magazine with my items and I was charged 50p each! Paid via paypal so just started a Paypal dispute, see what happens...0 -
Someone wrote into BC's Watchdog about this a few months ago and they investigated it, surprised that sports direct are still pulling this stunt!0

I have just had the same thing happen, a mug and a magazine added to my basket without permission and charged £1 for them! Also paid extra for next day delivery and I'm still waiting! Shocking service!0

I just placed an order and it was obvious when I went to check my basket before paying (as I always do) that there was an extra item added. If I didn't want the item it was really easy to remove.
However, these mugs are huge and since my husband loves a huge mug of tea, I let it stay in the bag. £1 is a bargain.
My brother placed an order a few months back and he got two mugs in his parcel. Bonus - now he has one for home and one for work:j
What annoyed me more is that it was £2 more to use the click and collect service! Now how can it be more expensive to deliver to a click and collect store in your area than to your home address?0 -
