I just gave this a try as I was thinking of ordering some trainers off them soon, no mug for me just a Sports direct magazine for £1!!! They really are taking advantage of people who don't properly check their basket amount before checkout.0

I wondr if this is a new thing or just some people? Had an order delivered about a month ago, nothing extra sneaked into basket. Last order was around Christmas time and that was free of extra items as well. Mind you I didn't get any free mug either0

Reply received to my tweet 24 hours later:
"@SportsDirect_CS: Hi. The option of removing the mug is available at the check out. Once removed it will not be added to future orders. Thanks."0 -
Interesting response. I have NEVER ordered from SD before yet my test order did not have the mug (or mag) added.
Perhaps it depends on the value of the order? (Mine was just a £5 T-shirt with £3.99 delivery).0 -
I had a magazine sneakily added to my order for £1 - a magazine that I read was aimed at men aged 24 - 34ish.
Right up my street then
I think this is really dodgy and is really putting me off them as a company. I never went through with my order as after clicking back and forth trying to get rid of the unwanted magazine from my order I just couldn't be bothered anymore.0 -
I ordered twice last year and got a free mug both times - quite big orders.
This thread prompted me to go and check, and they were indeed both free, as well as the postage. Mind you they are still both showing as "with courier" which isn't so clever.
Those mugs are huge!0 -
Just tried a test purchase on sports direct, yep, £1 magazine added to the order automatically!0

Somebody I know years ago got a Free mug.
They then ordered recently and got another mug. They assumed it was free too until they checked what they had paid.
And yesterday I added a £5 product and realised in the basket it was £6, it added their £1 magazine too.0 -
If the mugs are anything like their shoes, the handle will drop off and it'll start to leak in about 6 weeks.
On another note, if you went into a supermarket and found the cashier decided to scan a £1 magazine she had under the counter, would you be happy?
This behaviour needs to be reported to Trading Standards IMO.0 -
Just tried it and it's added a magazine to my cart. I ordered last year and got a free mug (which is actually quite good, and it's huge!)"Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."
