A free mug is acceptable, they are welcome to put free things into my basket. Last month they weren't free.0

They should be paying YOU to have one of these mugs for advertising their store.
This is very sharp practice indeed.0 -
Sounds to me like a storm in a teacup.
I'll get me coat then shall I?

The mug is free, but the magazine they add with it is still £10

Ordered from them this week.
Nothing was added to the basket, didn't have to remove anything.

Aaarrgghhhh! I'm so flipping mad at Sportsdirect AND myself.
Just ordered t-shirts for OH and didn't notice the added mug and magazine. They weren't in the original basket page, they only showed up when you get to checkout. I checked the basket before I went to click 'checkout' and it was just what I'd ordered that was there.
I then looked for a phone number to call them but no, you have to email.
The help section says this....."We will try our best to cancel your order however please be aware that we can only cancel if the order has not progressed passed our picking stage. This is usually one hour after the order has been placed. To cancel please contact our customer service team by cancel@sportsdirect.com and you'll receive an email to confirm once this has been done for you."
What's the betting they wont pick up my email until well after an hour has passed and the order has gone past picking.
I HATE this company. Underhand and sly.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Just found this thread after the same thing has happened to me.
I ordered 3 items and paid via paypal as I didn't want to set up an account with sports direct.
I then receive an email saying I'd paid for 4 items?
I then get email from sports direct with a mug (50p charge) and magazine (50p charge) added.
Neither of these do I want nor did I add them to my basket.0 -
yep , they really are the Ryanair of the highstreet!
Bought a pair of walking boots from their shop - "would you like a bag to carry that in?". They added £1 to the bill without mentioning any cost. Told them I didn't want a bag after all.

I was aware of these scams as it was on Watchdog a while ago, but when I ordered one item (just over £30) all I saw was the item and the postage charge; however when the Invoice came it showed the mug at 50p and their magazine at 50p. I'm not sure where the option to delete them was but it must have been carefully hidden away somewhere. I did get a free mug years ago which was fine but I wouldn't have bought one, or wanted their magazine if given a choice.
This practice needs banning now. Extra items should have to be opted in; you shouldn't have to opt out.
I only used them because they were the cheapest for a Xmas present I needed. Shall try and buy elsewhere in the future.0 -

Shocking that they can surreptitiously add stuff to your basket that you haven't selected, but which doesn't show up on your confirmation page. I've never encountered this on any other website ever. As someone posted above, it would be like Tesco employees chucking stuff you don't want into your trolley at the checkout and charging you for it.0
