Totally agree, though just to clarify the VVC engine only came in the Sport? ie, your common or garden 1.8i mk2.5 wont be a VVC head? Could be wrong but that was my interpretation..
No, all mk2.5 1.8's were VVC. I don't think the sport has any mechanical differences other than 6 speed gearbox & LSD.0 -
I'd say bulk of drivers.
Obviously the bulk of MX5 drivers being middle aged men are not going to want to admit that they're driving a girls/ hairdressers car. That said, just because its a girls/ hairdressers car doesnt mean it is either automatically bad nor not fun to drive, its just the image of the car.0 -
Why would you want bigger?
A personal preference, I've always preferred large, sturdier etc cars with a decent sized engine than tiny nippy things even if your weight/ power ratio is going to suffer. Plus have a wife who gets scared in little cars but is perfectly comfortable at the same speeds etc in a large car.0 -

Re: imports. Thanks to the very intensive MOT in Japan, imports are likely to be in decent condition, well maintained but I would expect a lot to have had paintwork. Parking issues mean that wee knocks and bumps are common so look past these. Doesn't always mean a shunt.
Of course, one reason for the lack of rust is because they don't use salt on the roads in Japan. Stops the rot. However, at the same time, they don't underseal them so if you do want to use the car outside the summer months get round it with the waxoyl quick smart! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

So what car is it you're driving and which versions of the MX5 have you driven?
I don't drive an MX5 btw.0 -
So some people might think it's a girls car...Do you really care what others think? It's like my colleague at work who suggested I got a private plate to hide the age of my 1991 'J' reg Merc..
Why would I want to do that? The very people that might be impressed by a car looking younger than it is are the very last people on earth I care about impressing.
Likewise, the very people who think I'm driving a 'girls' car if I was in an MX-5 are the people whose opinion I care least about.
They can think what they like as long as I'm grinning like a loon through the corners. MX-5 gives huge pleasure at reasonable speeds without being dangerous. Just don't stick huge fat tyres on it.0 -
Of course these guys don't know what the hell they are taking about do they:-
