  • Well, put another way OP, as I now know of someone being dismissed on less service then yourself god I felt sorry for them,
    I had to think how does an employer know someone is not right for them only weeks later? it doesn't seem fair

    You can be sacked for not fitting in but critised for leaving?

    You can really tell in a week in a lot of jobs of if the person is right.

    Does 'office politics' exist in other workplaces that aren't offices?

    It appears workplace politics is a game that the majority of folks have absolutely no clue how to play.

    Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    I think what they meant was you can tell if someone is up to the job. There are people who are good talkers at interview or write excellent application forms outliining their experience/ability but within days in the job you know they have over egged their skills.

    For this reason we now give a practical test alongside an interview to see if people have the IT/numeracy/logical skills they say they do as you cannot rely on them just having the qualifications.

    I've been let go from dozens of agency jobs after being there for just a few days! I was expected to be able to do jobs with barely any training! Not to mention that in some cases, I was never really suitable for the job, but the agency sent me there anyway, so that they could get their cut of my pay.

    I'm really trying to find a new job that I won't hate at the moment.
    Not being able to drive makes things harder, as sometimes I think i'd like to learn a 'trade', but once qualified, I can't really turn up at someones house with my tools in a taxi! lol.

    I did the right thing by telling my manager how I felt. She agreed that the person was offhand and she would chat to her, unfortunately she didn't.

    And why do you think she didn't chat to her if she so strongly agreed with you. Could it be that she was just telling you what you wanted to hear because she already had enough of the moaning?
    I know what is acceptable in an office and what is not.

    And that is most likely the attitude that failed you. You should never assume you know everything better when you first start a job.
    worked bloody hard and something that I did enjoy until the targets became too pressurising
    Or you didn't work as hard as you thought. How did the other coped with the new targets?
  • I think there is a sweet spot where one can work only just about hard enough to keep one's job and that is what I would recommend. Any more effort is simply benefit to your employer's shareholders.
