I am looking for a savings account with higher interest, but notice that the Sainsburys one requires you to open a bank account at the same time.

Does anyone know if an internet account can be opened without the bank account? I really don't want it, nor the hassle of opening and closing it straight away.

    TIA. :)

Read the T&C's again. It doesn't. Neither does ICICI or Icesave

Ah - I misread. It said it would register me for Sainsburys Bank Online....the system. I initially read it as the actual bank account.

    Thanks.

  • Hmm... wonderful. Phone Sainsburys to explain I have very few of the documents needed (live with parent so no bills / council tax, don't drive, no valid passport, one doc over 3 months old, a tax document they wouldn't accept although it is on the list, have not yet felt the need to purchase a firearm...). Eventually they said they'd pass the details on to someone else who would write to me... And a week later I get exactly the same "we can't verify your details, please send xyz" letter as I did a week ago  .

Has anyone actually managed to open the internet saver account without the exact documents they ask for? I'm wondering whether to just ask them to close the thing and not bother.

Worst part is, I set up a separate online BMW ISA account on the same day, with exactly the same details provided, and they've had no problems verifying me electronically at all :( Why's it so hard for you, Sainsburys? :p
  • I had problems with a tax document. It said 2006 to 2007, but - of course - the tax year is April to April, so it was - strictly speaking - out of date.

I had my second set of name verification documents returned yesterday. They are still dealing, but at least they weren't rejected. I also get the impression from the covering letter that they are a bit busy at the moment.

All this anti-money laundering rigmarole is a pain, but - IMHO - it is preferable to the alternative. You also have to remember that, if a financial institution is ever found not to have checked this properly, the FSA will drop on them like a ton of bricks.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

Write or make a call to Inland Revenue to ask them to send you your Tax Code. Then that letter can be valid for a year! I used to do that.
  • How do I feed a Nationwide Regular savings account from my Sainsburys account please?

Can't find any options for doing this yet others reccomend Sainsburys as a good feeder account?

Can only find options for one off payments.

have tried making a payment mandate, but after creating it and selecting it, it returns to the main page. Is this the correct section for making a regular payment.

perhaps it isn't working becasue I use a Mac?

You can't set up a regular payment. You need to do each payment manually.
