Colposcopy - I'm scared. (Not looking for med advice)

So I called them and the woman I spoke to was lovely, a lot more sympathetic than anyone I saw the day I went in.
I said I wanted to know how I would get my results (call or letter) and how long I should be waiting for my results, as 6-8 weeks seemed like a long time.
She explained and said that all results are sent via letter. The reason the wait can be that long is because once the results are collected, they are sent back to the colposcopy department, the consultant has to review the results and is only in once a week, so if you're results come back on a Wednesday and they don't come in until Tuesday that is the hold up, then the consultant will review the cases and prioritize more urgent cases- hence why the more serious cases get results back quicker and less urgent cases are updated on the system and then a letter is sent out.
Her explaining all this to me made a lot more sense and I feel more confident knowing what I now know. I'm not saying it means I'm in the clear just now, but you know...
And she was kind enough to check if there was anything on the system and she said nothing has come through for me as of yet, so fingers firmly crossed here! Some times you have to hold back to go forward to where you want to be.

Just to update - i have just come back from my colposcopy today and it was a breeze! It certainly doesnt hurt ladies - I didnt feel a thing! In fact id say the nurse was better than the one at the docs who did my original smear!£2 Savers Club #156!

Agreed to be honest - I had a proper ham-fisted nurse do my smear, plus I think the plastic speculums hurt more than the metal ones!

I had a colposcopy about 8 years ago following an abnormal smear with borderline changes.
Just wanted to add, I went in a dress and 60 denier tights but regretted it, obviously I had to take my tights off and my legs were in the stirrups and I had no socks for my feet. My feet were FREEZING. If you're going to go in tights, put a pair of thick socks in your handbag to keep your feet warm . That was the worst part of the procedure for me.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

Hi everyone, just an update.
I got my results through today. CIN3 changes, so the last stage before cancer, but they got all the cells so I don't need any more treatment at the moment.
I am delighted and cried with relief.
Smear test in 6 months but other than that, it's all over.
Good luck to those of you still awaiting results, and lots of love.

Hi HBS,
Thanks for your update, I'm still waiting on mine. To be honest I've had a hard week of it this week, I've become convinced it's bad news and I just want to be put out of my misery. I called the clinic yesterday and asked why I was still waiting after almost a month and they said they didn't have my results through but would check if anything had come in this week and send the letter out asap. Of course I heard that to mean, it's bad news and I don't want to tell you over the phone.
I'm tempted to call again today, it's giving me so much anxiety I'm not sleeping well and not focusing at work. Nobody has been rude enough to say it but I know I look like $h!t this week.
Glad that you've got your treatment out the way and can focus on the future and the knowledge that in the grand scheme of things, life can go on and you are going to be ok! That is wonderful news! xSome times you have to hold back to go forward to where you want to be.

They won't tell you over the phone I'm afraid - it's to do with confidentiality.
Please don't worry - I'm sure if it was that bad you'd have been told by now
Lots of hugs!
