I'm sorry if it's taken out of context but I find that offensive and I'm neither German or Russian. Why on earth is your SIL going abroad if she doesn't want to mix with 'foreign' people?
To be fair... I know exactly what they mean by it. I am a foreigner myself so don't think I discriminate, but I have had a lot of bad experience with some nationalities on holidays...0 -
I use Trip Advisor and post on it.
However, I am well aware that it gives personal view points. In March we spent ages choosing an hotel, eventually picking one which had lots of posters saying they had repeat stays.
The rooms were dreadful, worse than those I've stayed in hostels and 2 stars on school visits.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Maybe the review also said that neither nationality queue as we British do.
Nothing wrong with that but it can annoy some people, especially if they have queued for, say, a buffet and other guests push in.
Or maybe it said that they get up at stupid o'clock to reserve sunbeds.
I take all nationalities as I find them rather than generalising and quite enjoy talking to people from different countries.
We found it highly hilarious watching the antics at a hotel we stayed at years ago in Tunisia.
It was the last couple of weeks of the long-stay period and we were the youngest couple there by about 30 years.
Dinner started at 7:30 and by 7pm, the 'oldies' had started to queue, rattling walking sticks and zimmer frames like sabres.
We just waited for an hour or so for the queue to die down.
I might have made that point in a review (if I'd done one) but it wouldn't make me ageist - at least not in my opinion.
I think we'd need to know exactly what the review said about Russians and Germans for it to be deemed offensive or not.0 -

She sounds as if she's rather naïve and a worrier. If she wants to miss out on her holiday for those sorts of reasons or a delay which is totally luck of the draw then I would just let her get on with it. There is certainly a need to read the reviews carefully. I saw a bad review for a hotel in central Madrid. When I looked carefully it was because of poor air con in August. I was going in November and the hotel was great.
We we to a hotel in Turkey and all the kids and adults entertainment was in German & Russian. We didn't care as we don't go to watch cheesy shows, but if you do like that type of thing & have kids it could be a problem on your holiday. The sun bed thing was really annoying though we had to get up early every day.
Same as the food could be tailored towards them for breakfast or whatever. And the queuing can cause conflicts at dinner time.
Obviously if you're going to Germany on holiday that's one thing but I can understand especially if you have kids you might want to pick a hotel which is tailored more towards guests from the UK so your children can at least talk to the other kids in the kids club or whatever!
Or you might think great no British people and pick that hotel deliberately.0 -
What did we all do before the internet ?0

I have posted before now on a hotel where there were prostitutes and that attracts certain people around. These were certain nationality (both) and I might have commented on it.
The hotel fully allowed this and deserved to be scored on it. I have nothing against prostitutes, but I do not put myself in a position where someone can come up to me and ask if I am in business.
Agree that germans don't queue:D0 -

I often say that!
the answer in my case is go to a horrible hotel with only the travel agents brochure to go on! I remember being a teenager and going on holiday to a hotel that was dirty and the food was awful. it had looked amazing in the brochure and my mum was really disappointed in the money she'd paid. if only trip advisor was around then eh?0 -

It's not that fun being on holiday with a load of Brits in a hotel for a wedding you're not attending........ we felt like we were bit parts in an episode of Eastenders whilst on holiday in Greece....
Some of my fellow travellers obviously felt the same way judging by the comments they posted on Tripadvisor when they got back.
There were also some Russians there for their wedding. We never even noticed which day it took place it was so quiet!Make £2025 in 2025

I have yet to find any hotel or venue that receives 100% good feedback on Trip advisor or similar sites. That the hotel your sil is going to has 95% is really positive. You say she also has personal recommendations from friends who have been, and who know her and what her expectations of a place are. I don't think she can go far wrong by keeping the booking she has. Most likely it will be all she is hoping for and she will have a great time. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0
