    I absolutely loved Goa!!
  • I havent read all the replies but...you sister in law is worrying over nothing. Are you sure she is having cold feet because of the reviews or is there another reason?

I always use trip advisor and find it to be reliable. Generally if the majority of people say its good then it will be. There are always going to be a few people who have a unlucky/bad experience or those who love to whinge and moan over the smallest thing. Ignore the very best and the very worst and look at what the majority of people have to say.

Personally Ive been to hotels with lots of Germans, i dont mind because Im not that sociable. However I can see that for people who like to socialise and make friends in the hotel this could be a downside. Having said that most Germans speak good English.

I did too - even loved the hotel we booked with the 2/10 review. :rotfl:

I do think it's a bit like marmite though - you either 'get it' or you don't.

When you consider that people post negative experiences more often that positive ones, a rate of 95% positive is fabulous.

I do cruise holidays, and if I took notice of some of the reviews, I'd never set foot on a ship. Also, as I've spent a lot of time on cruise forums I've learnt which people are negative and moany, so I tend to discount their reviews.

If you see a negative review, check out the reviewers other reviews - if they've got a tendency to be always negative, take the review with a pinch of salt!

Yep, this was the hotel with prostitutes. But this is Goa - you spend most of the time outside the hotel and staff were just amazing. Also it was 3* their standards, so we couldn't really expect much.. we didn't pay much for the holidays in comparison what long haul can cost!
It was clean and food was good, that was the most important thing.

And the country itself - amazing and I felt very safe.

I mean go to the page on tripadvisor that shows the reviews for the hotel then copy and paste the link (from the address bar at the top of the page) into a post on here so we can have a look.

Or just tell us the name and location of the hotel so we can find it?

oh thanks, yes by all means

I'm sorry if it's taken out of context but I find that offensive and I'm neither German or Russian. Why on earth is your SIL going abroad if she doesn't want to mix with 'foreign' people?

She sounds as if she's rather naïve and a worrier. If she wants to miss out on her holiday for those sorts of reasons or a delay which is totally luck of the draw then I would just let her get on with it. There is certainly a need to read the reviews carefully. I saw a bad review for a hotel in central Madrid. When I looked carefully it was because of poor air con in August. I was going in November and the hotel was great.

oh no sorry its not my sil stating this comments, it was a comment from someone on tripadvisor. Actually there was quite a few people who stated this

    oops

Quite frankly I don't think I would have the patience for your SIL.
She is acting like a child and trying to find mistakes with the place. 95% positive reviews is excellent scoring. She sounds like a little spoiled brat to be honest. Are you sure she wants to even go on a holidays?? Isn't she finding excuses to cancel?? Because anyone with a bit of a brain would recognise that
a/ take reviews with a pinch of salt
b/ some people just write when they have something to complain about
c/ 95% is excellent scoring considering the above!!
And what does the hotel have to do with some travellers delays????

I use tripadvisor all the time and also post reviews. I often look where the review poster is from and look at other reviews by the person - some nationalities have different standards and some people are just plain thick. Like when people complain there was no american style food in Cuba... seriously?? How thick are they??

Let her do her moan but rise above it.
On the other hands - the lesser she expects, the more she will enjoy the holidays as it will exceed her expectations.

She is a bit of a worrier yet my brother just wants to go like NOW..

From my experience of TA, the comments have to put into context. If a reviewer has criticised poor wifi for example, then it wouldn't be a problem for me because I don't normally use wifi on holiday. If however the reviewer complained that the room was dirty, I'd look at the date of the posting and weigh this against the positive comments and dates of these.

Also, I find that Americans moan the most. :D
