Indeed! Each needs to find what works for our own hair - mine would turn into a solid lanky lump if I did what you do :rotfl:

True. Its amazing how people just follow instructions on bottles or from hairdressers not looking at the condition of their hair as their guide, making changes and experimenting. :).

Mine needs lots of moisture. Not only is the hair type dry, but my outdoors in all weathers lifestyle is hard on it and my health isn't great...all things that deplete hair. Yet it stays in fairly decent nick. When it isn't it shows quickly!
  • I used to do this, when i had more time to experiment! you need a cone free conditioner to make co washing work well, plenty of lists online that tell you which ones are silicone free
I used a cheapo asda citrus conditioner, made my hair super soft

Its not necessarily so that everyone needs cone free. (Though agree majority seem to find it so.) WEN and other cleansing conditioners I have bought have silicones in them, and sell well suiting many and so it follows that other conditioners with cones in them might suit some people.

I did this for awhile but I found I was having to do it every day as my fine hair looked limp and greasy.

Just buy the cheapest supermarket brand you can buy and use a decent amount. If it hadn't been for the fact I had to wash my hair every day I would have persevered.

I have to say my hair was in lovely condition though.

  • Well I started struggling with this method so did a bit more research. I was doing it all wrong ;) and there's a two week transition period whilst the scalp adjusts.

So I'm going to persevere for a couple of weeks and wear my hair up during the two weeks.

No way am I wasting my 60pence bottle of conditioner:D

I would love to say that I've followed everyone's advice, but I had a slight hair disaster last week where I dyed my hair fire-engine red instead of copper. So I'm trying to wash that out first then I'll be able to get started with the co-washing again!
  • Swap you Stir - every time I try to go bright red I go copper ;)

Apparently Vosene is good for colour-stripping.

The transition period is definitely true. Initially io found this very hard, I had been used to washing my hair far too much, as it is curly it has to go wet to be restyled and I was doing this almost every day and so I might as well wash it , right? (Especially as I was around horses and my hair stank....)

Now I find often my hair doesn't need restyling for much longer, and a scrunch with some conditioner rescues it when its ' ok but not great'.

I am at all times guided by my hair NOT by a book. If my scalp didn't feel comfortable I would do something about it. I know know a co wash will deal with most of what my scalp throws at me, But if it doesn't then just because I 'lo poo' it wouldn't stop me washing if I felt I needed to.

I co wash with tresemme naturals.

I follow the curly girl method which is silicone free, I do shampoo very, very occasionally but mostly just co wash.
