I use a cheap as chips conditioner from Asda, about 45p a bottle!
  • The most basic conditioner is supposed to be used I think. I've just bought the boots essential one to try this method.

If the basic conditioner is used to clean, is a better conditioner used after to condition? Or is this process one step?

What results have you experienced? I'm hoping for less dry hair.

I've bought the Timotei sulphate free conditioner to try. I must admit, my hair was in great condition yesterday - styled easily, hung well, no fly away's. Some people mention using shampoo every now and then, and some people don't. I guess it's down to the individual's hair.

I do use shampoo every now and then. The now and then....when my hair is highlighted at the hair dressers, Its often enough for me now. It used to be a little more often, now its a little too close together if anything. My hair dresser while agreeing my hair is in good condition, not common for its type....its type (very long, very curly, and very high lighted) is not confident about washing off the high lift tint without shampoo and I understand that. :D.

I also use a lot of product including silicones (silicone free transition has never yet worked for me, though I really want to give it another try because I know silicones are the only thing left that is any drying factor to my hair....but they also help SO much with curl products) so shampoo helps with product buildup every now and then.

As well as light conditioners (the basics range ones are really good for many as the first wash conditioners and extraordinarily cheap ) I am afraid I often do it the non Mse way and buy co washes like wen. Its silly as they are no better really, but wen really does suit my particular hair (its not silicone free though I think) and saves a thought process:o. I just hate the ordering technique and process. I am approaching the time to order so I might buy some conditioner and co normally for a cycle and see how I go.....silicone free in my wash at least:D

I've found 2 conditioners that work well for me: Boots Essential (something like 65p a 500ml bottle :rotfl: ) and Alberto Balsam mandarin & papaya

My personal experience is that the more "premium" or "salon" conditioners are utterly useless if used without shampoo first, whilst the cheap stuff does the job nicely - you need to try a few out though and see which ones your hair is happiest with.

I used up all my old premium conditioners co washing. They worked fine. I just used them like I would normally, doing a stretch test on the hair to make sure I used the right conditioner for the right needs......:). (And bought a lighter conditioner for the first wash of the co wash process)

I did see an advert for Wen the other day, it was actually what got me thinking about co-washing. I did wonder if it was any different from other conditioners given the price

No, mainly just more expensive, ;)

Psychologically it helped my make the transfer from shampoo and feel a bit better about it, and also, because I am often not feeling that clear headed its easy not to think about much and just grab the bottle. Sometimes I am not able to get out to the shops very easily, so it helps me that its mail order. Various things like that.

I like it somewhat, but I certainly don't think its 'better' for co washing. Than other things. I did after reading an online review hanker desperately after the fig one, which was meant to be better for dry and curly hair and smelled 'totally amazing'. When I eventually got hold of some it was the same as all the other wen so gas as I can tell for results and smells to me like cough mixture :rotfl:. A lot of this sort of stuff is emporers new clothes ;):D.

Its just a matter of ease for me. For people for whom some of the nasties are a causing a problem, then their presence in wen will obviously be an issue and stop them co washing at all.

I just do one step :p
I wash my hair like I would with a shampoo but obviously using conditioner instead, then comb through and leave while I shower, then rinse. Done :)

I've done it and my hair is dry. I'm pleased with it. Silky. Will keep it up for a while.

I rinsed well just in case.

And I do two when using normal conditioner....
So a light basic one in my hair for a good scrub and leave in for the duration of my shower then a deeper condition with a heavier conditioner, and if I have it something targeted for moister or protein needs depending on what my hair says it needs at the time).

(I have naturally dry, curly hair, so this suits my hair, someone with less dry hair might find this too much)

With something like wen, I just use wen one step, with a weekly deep condition,

I also, because of my hair type, put some normal conditioner back in my hair, well away from scalp, to use as a leave in. For lots of people that would be way too much!

Indeed! Each needs to find what works for our own hair - mine would turn into a solid lanky lump if I did what you do :rotfl:
