Selling V5 without car

We often hear tales of woe when people buy a car without a V5. But here's an opportunity to do the opposite:

That said; could be an interesting business purchasing V5s for stolen cars (I.e. Legally transferring ownership) for peanuts, and working to recover the cars to sell on.

I've reported it to ebay and logged it over on a Pistonheads thread where they'll report it to ebay too and hopefully get it closed down pronto

Sadly happens with bikes a lot. They'll sell a frame and V5 from a crashed machine (not declared) which is easy to swap with a nicked one and put all the stolen parts on a seemingly legit machine.

I also stuck it on over on pistonheads, they take a dim view of it over there

Someone over there has reported it to the police and to the RS Owners club.

Good work. I had originally reported to Ebay but it's clearly a police matter as well. Still have the item on my watch list - will download the pics before they go.

Theres more on ebay, same stuff is listed as memorabilia (to conform to ebay rules) for a mini.

Supplying articles for use in fraud
There is no legitimate reason to sell JUST a V5 and VIN plate. The only possible reason to sell/want such an item is to disguise/change the identity of a vehicle - and so pass it on fraudulently.

It's not as clear cut as that and proving intent (in the absence of case law making it a defacto offence by way of the fact it's hard to explain legitimate ownership) is very hard, but I'd certainly like to have a go!

Problem is they're often enthusiast vehicles subject to this, as they hold value and are worth ringing, so it would be easy to claim that they are souvenirs in their own right.
