  • Hey all just a quick check in to report I'm still on track and up to 7 packed lunch days! Today was a rather uninspiring ham sandwich but tomorrow shall be left overs from tonight's roast chicken yummmm!

  • I bought myself a systema salad lunch box and it was the best thing I ever did. I take couscous (made with a crumbled in veggie oxo) and salad with fruit/veg snacks in the top trays and I've never looked back. i'm now actually disappointed when I leave it in the fridge at home. Much better than unwrapping soggy sandwiches :)

You'll get there Trixie, have you tried keeping a spending diary? This can be a handy way to see where money is being spent on little bits and bobs.

Having a budget and sticking to it is another way especially if you pay for groceries with cash because that way you can see how much money you have left of your budget instead of putting items onto a card and not really knowing where the money has gone.

Meal planning is a useful resource. Plan all of your meals for the next week and only buy the ingredients needed for those meals.

There are quite a few tricks you can use to help :)

Oh my goodness lots of people dropping in - fantastic :j

Hi Edwardia and welcome back :j what's all this about a break-in? I hope you were both OK.:o If your DH isn't doing as much physical work then maybe his appetite will dwindle a bit as well?

Hi Dozey Crow, I was thinking about you earlier and wondered how you had got on with your new job. Glad you're enjoying work and well done with the LTW :T Orange, green and blue Tupperware items I remember my mother had. My granny had all the blue and white Poole pottery type stuff and massive pans as she'd had 5 children to feed by herself due to being widowed bless her.

A nice treat there for Friday opal :T

Hi softlass, I never thought about looking into the systema boxes, I'd probably better not start either as I've quite enough plastic boxes :rotfl:

    You're welcome Trixie, good luck!

OK some updates to do and then I'm watching the 2nd half of Educating Yorkshire on Ch4+1.

  • Day 9/19 for me. Yoghurt & cereal bar for breakfast. Home made sweet potato & roasted red pepper soup for lunch.

Feeling very cold here today so think I will make sure I have plenty of leftovers I can heat up for next weeks lunches. Although WantToBeSE's idea of re-creating the Subway meatball sub sounds lovely so might give that a go too.

On target for another NSD and have only spent £2.40 of my spending allowance since Monday :j

Deciding whether to put the money I am not spening towards xmas or towards debt repayment. I think I might go 50/50 as it will mean no additional debt for xmas and a closer DFD. :D

Hi there kittiej -the guy was already wanted by police so he's back in prison already and we're fine thanks xx I can but hope he doesn't stuff so much. Could end up more expensive than the restaurant otherwise. Roll on 2016 when we'll be debt free :T

Nellie77 am feeling cold myself and don't usually having lived in Canada where's it really brrrr - I think it's the sudden temperature drop after hotter-than-usual summer, well that's my theory. Are you taking soup to work ?

Dozey Crow - hello there how are you doing ? :hello:

OK I had this mad idea but maybe it will work. Those deluxe fruit yogurts, be they Rachel's, Yeo Valley, Onken, Muller corners etc are pretty expensive. So I am thinking of seeing whether buying plain and adding either a low sugar jam or one of those Ella's Kitchen fruit purees (70p) would work out cheaper.

Softlass do you have a link for the systema please ?

    Hi everyone.
Had a bowl of salad today. I made a huge one with various veggies, nuts, mackerel, croutons etc. It was lovely :)

Ahhh thank you for thinking of me that is really kind:). My first week has gone really well thanks. I know it's a cliche but it really is my dream job and I have fitted really well into my team. I had an end of week review today and my manager said that this week couldn't have gone better and I feel the same!:T

Lunch wise I did well and took sandwiches every day. But although I avoided chocolate and junk food I could be a bit healthier. Next week I am taking hummus and carrot sticks as a snack and some fruit.

Your Grandma sounds like an amazing woman...... bringing up 5 children alone in those days is no easy task! I think I have seen that pottery. Isn't it funny what we remember?
    Xxx

    UPDATE:

Thursday - friends came by for a playdate and I was able to prepare them food from cupboard.

Friday - since I am the only one at home with baby, I had what's left of yesterday.

Saturday - prepared some tuna with pasta courtesy of the cupboard.

Geez, the road to frugality is really kicking in to me.
