Well, this weekend has been a lazy "indoors" one by choice.

Yesterday I watched an online screening of the opera "Billy Budd", which I've been looking forward to for quite a while. After watching it through once, I went back and re-watched some of the best bits. Then had a craving for my "special mashed potatoes" so made them. Then washed my hair and watched a LoveFilm disc.

Today I finished a book I've been enjoying "The Orphan Master's Son", then I watched the Tom Hardy documentary about poaching on ITV Player. Plans for the rest of the day involving making tea next, having a bath whilst starting on my next library book. Then I may watch a DVD as there doesn't seem to be much decent on TV tonight.

I do try and get out to do something cultural/fun most weekends though. For instance, I might take advantage of free parking in town on a Sunday and get a coffee and have a mooch around the shops/library. I also enjoy agricultural shows, so go to quite a few of those during the summer months. I also have an English Heritage membership that I try and get my moneys worth out of! I also enjoy urban walking, so will sometimes take myself off to explore somewhere on foot.

  • I'm part of a childless couple, we don't live together yet. My boyfriend bought a house earlier this year which needs a lot of work, so we spend some time (when the weather's not good) DIYing and gardening together with the music on!
On sunnier days we'll go sunbathing or to an outdoor swimming pool or camping. Sometimes we'll go for a walk.
During the winter or on more miserable days we will go to the cinema/bowling/ice skating/watch films at home.
Sometimes we go to events like fun days run at the local animal rehoming centre, concerts/to see comedians/to the theatre, budget music festivals, day trips (the zoo, theme parks etc) and to see friends.

In the evenings we tend to watch a film, or tv series' (working our way through all the episodes of Friends) and will cook ourselves takeaway style food! Sometimes we go out to eat but not as much as we used to!

On weekends where I'm on my own I tend to sew, go shopping with my mum (boyfriend hates shopping so I only ever go with my mum or alone), watch girly films and etc!

If this all sounds expensive, I'll add that most of what we do involves a discount voucher or we buy each other tickets to things for birthdays/Christmas. For example:
Bowling - Our local alley does special deals on Sundays
Cinema - Boyfriend has Odeon card and once we've been 2-3 times we can get a free ticket, or Tesco have special offers. We buy sweets at Tesco beforehand rather than at the cinema.
Eating Out - Usually the Pizza Express weekend deal, or another voucher from here!
Day Trips - Using 2 for 1 offers, boyfriend adopted me an animal for my birthday which meant free tickets to the zoo.
    Others - Groupon deals!

Now we need a thread for what ONE person does at weekends, not part of couple and child free too!

OH and I have been together 20 odd years, he has house in the country, mine is in the city. We hook up lots!

At weekends though, I like my Saturdays to myself thank you very much. The joys of semi single life! So I visit Mum at eleven, having done the boring stuff cleaning and washing etc. then go into town after for a nose.

Then it's a cookout for the freezer, or just sweet dam all. Happy days.

Sunday's are together days mostly, but not always. Whatever we feel like. Walk, talk, garden whatever. No plans, just enjoy.

Been through a tough time lately, so am actually enjoying a bit of quiet time.

not read all the replies - have you thought of befriending? There are organisations which match you to an older person who might not have any family, and befriending is a way of them seeing someone.
Cats don't have owners - they have staff!! :D:p

It depends as I'm usually working. However if I'm off its usually because I'm either away somewhere or my rugby team are at home or are playing a 'local' away game (Bedford, Moseley) if I'm about on Saturday OH and I will go food shopping in the morning and then for drinks or to the cinema in the evening.

I usually work Saturdays so we don't get many "weekends" but when we do the usual routine is:

Friday, OH finishes work, goes to Asda to buy dinner then meets me at my house. He makes dinner while I get showered and we will eat together. We will bake something from scratch together for pudding and eat it in front of the TV with tea.

Saturday we get up, take the dog a long walk/drive. We will usually cook dinner together or go out for dinner. If there's something going on like a fair or the merchant city festival we will go into town for that or we might go shopping together for clothes or things related to our hobbies. In the evening he catches up on his programmes while I lie across him knitting or reading.

Sundays we have a long lie, he brings me breakfast in bed and we usually stay there until 11:30 or later. Dog gets another walk and then we visit our families (his mum one week and mine the next).

We have just got back from the cheshire country sport and game fair in knutsford...Had a great day out and what a lovely day..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

We played a game in the park - a wooden block game called KUBB. But crochet, or a picnic with cards or chess would have been good fun too & a lovely cost effective afternoon :)
