What do you do at the weekend?

Tomorrow we have a trip to a local art gallery and museum planned.
Usual activities are hillwalking (all weathers
) and cycling with the dog.
We also enjoy going to car boot sales for a look although hardly ever leave with anything. Baking can be fun if you are in the mood to be creative.
We do have children and they participate in these activities aswell but I thought they were all rounders and suitable for a child free couple too
How on earth did you train him to do that?

Sometimes we go to the theatre or other places of interest (for example, yesterday with went to the Houses of Parliament), other times we may go to the cinema, to a vintage fair, visit friends, or they visit us.
Other times we might do nothing at all, just stay at home, read our Kindles, do a jigsaw, watch a film we've recorded, do eBaying, things like that.
I don't feel pressure to 'do' things all the time. We do enough to make ourselves happy, but are also content to stay at home and relax.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Baking, I would love as a hobby. You've made me really want to bake every weekend! Unfortunately, I'm obese and so it's probably not a wise idea...
But oh, the idea of making a treat each week, spending time making it and filling the house with baking smell....
Jealous now, haha.I'll cook a batch of meals to freeze for weeknights after work
Please don't be offended but have you thought of a slimming group? Many of those meet on a Saturday morning and then you could spend time planning your menu, shopping and cooking for the week ahead. I'm speaking from experience and it has widened my circle of friends to people I'd never have met otherwise.
Something else we've done lately is go on guided walks in our home city or take a car/bus ride to a neighbouring town and explore there. If you like shopping then charity shops are good for browsing.
Inviting friends over or making plans to meet up and do something together is good. If you've made a commitment to someone else you're more likely to do it.0 -
When we don't have plans for one or both days of the weekend, we tend to chill out & do very little, apart from catching up with ironing & housework. This weekend, apart from going to a BBQ tomorrow, we've had no plans so went out Friday evening, had a lie in yesterday then did a bit of housework/ironing, and generally lazed around, today is very similar.
We have something planned for the next 9 weekends, either one or both days so we like to make the most of ones where we have no plans. Future plans include our wedding anniversary, an afternoon tea/day in London, a day spent with extended family, going to a couple of wedding fairs with DD no.2 and going on holiday.
We probably sound a bit boring but really, we're not :rotfl:0 -

Not offended at all.
Unfortunately, whenever I think of slimming groups I think of 'unhealthy dieting'. My diet is fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and poultry. I don't actually lose weight, but I feel comfortable knowing that I'm giving my body 'natural nutrition'.
Everyone I know that goes to a slimming group tends to eat ready meals, foods with artificial ingredients, or 'meal replacement' bars and shakes. I do think in principle it sounds great to meet with other people, but I think I'd get annoyed at the actual meetings.
Also, like Kynthia, my diet is batch-cooked. I'd be boring to compare meals with.
'Yes, I've slow-cooked beef, carrot, swede, broccoli and green beans...AGAIN'.
'This week, I swapped the green beans for sweetcorn! Woo! Rebellion!'
:rotfl:
My food never smells as good cooking as cakes and breads do.
In fact, slow-cooked broccoli is the most horrific smell on the planet.0 -
We have a restoration project as a house and its on a smallholding so DIY, gardening and then friends visit, so cooking, lounging. We have lots of animals and there is always something to do, either a chore or for fun, more usually both combined
When we are lucky and on rate days we have the house to ourselves after the animals in morning we spend the day back in bed like love struck kids.
Today was meant to be painting and wood preserving outside and some mowing, but the weather has driven us in, and the next job inside is too big to start inside so we are just having a little job day. In a minute we are off to take down a length of old post and rail fencing and turn it into firewood, that can be done in the rain. And moving logs from trees felled over previous years into the log stores ..that's a pretty constant job, we do a few loads most weekends!
Not keen on chain saw in the rain, but we have one problem tree needs to come down before winter so might fell it and leave it in one piece till spring.0 -
I've got a boat.
You can lose huge amounts of time messing about in a boat! As it was a bit inclement yesterday I spent the afternoon headfirst in the engine compartment tidying up and tinkering.
We spent the evening outside the marina bar watching the local wildlife and chatting with friends. Today I'm pottering about and will probably take the boat out once the crew/girlfriend gets back.
With boats you measure time in terms of day and night rather than hours and minutes, very relaxing. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
We watch DVDs or box sets, cook or bake together, go to the pub and meet up with friends. Both of us are working on a couple of writing projects as well so quite often we'll make a pot of coffee and sit on opposite sides of the kitchen table and write for a couple of hours, especially if the weather's bad.
I also go running and do British Military Fitness, so that's a few hours in the morning, but my OH would prefer a lie-in on a weekend so I let him sleep!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
