Oh ok, so its a spite thing.

Well, enjoy it I suppose, although I must point out that there's no mention of pride in 'women's lib' and nobody's called it that for a long time!

Huh??? Where did you get that from?

What I meant was that trendy lefties think it is OK to be proud of who you are if you are female or gay or black (all accidents of birth), but woe betide you if you are proud of your country and patriotic (especially if you happen to be male too).

Um, you do realise that gay pride celebrations are not about just the mere fact of being gay, but about overcoming prejudice and discrimination, surely you must?

Someone who himself proud to be a white British male is probably not someone I'd want to be alone with.

That's Ok. He probably wouldn't want to be alone with you if you despised him so much.

Surely you're showing prejudice and discrimination though, which is rather ironic given the rest of the post. Why assume they'd be a knuckle-dragging thug? Is it not possible in your book to simply be proud of one's culture and country, without being an extremist?

The only men I've ever seen shouting about how proud they are of being white and British are usually kettled and carrying a racist banner.

How can you be proud of being accidentally born a certain race/sex/nationality?

If anything, people who have had to work to become British, taken citizenship tests etc. have got far more reason to be proud of their status.

Nothing wrong with being it of course! Just nonsensical to be proud of it.

I don't disagree with your last point - it's very valid - but I've known plenty of people who love their country and culture but are not racist. And completely off-topic, this song shows what it means to me to be English - it's all about the physical land:

I am thankful for all the opportunities I have benefited from by being raised in the UK. I am proud of myself for making the most of them as they became available to me and for what I have achieved in life. I am not proud to be British, that is just my nationality and something I instantly gained by being born here, it doesn't define who I am.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
