Living in Glasgow I can confirm that there is an element of not going with one of "them" in certain circles. Although thankfully most of the stupid bigotry these days seems to be contained to football.0 -

It really is pretty rare now in my experience for it to matter much in Glasgow.
I am Pagan, OH has no religion, my parents are Bhuddists, his parents were vaguely CofE. No conflicts here at all :j0 -

The Apostles' Creed (Latin: Symbolum Apostolorum or Symbolum Apostolicum), sometimes titled Symbol of the Apostles, is an early statement of Christian belief, a creed or "symbol".[1] It is widely used by a number of Christian denominations for both liturgical and catechetical purposes, most visibly by liturgical Churches of Western tradition, including the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, Lutheranism, Anglicanism, and Western Orthodoxy. It is also used by Presbyterians, Methodists, and Congregationalists.
1. I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
2. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
3. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
........
that's neither of the Anglican versions - is it the current Catholic one?
I learned both, and particulary the Book of Common Prayer version, as reciting it every day of every week in Chapel at boarding school for 2.5 years helped it stick!
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended to hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead and ascended to heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from whence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the ressurrection of the body, and of life everlasting.
Might be a few words out, it's been a while since I was at boarding school!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

You mean the basics like God being Father, Son and Holy Spirit and Jesus being the Son of God who died for our sins and was resurrected ?
Those are the basics and they are the same in Catholic and Protestant. Read the Apostles' Creed.
If you believe that just because the basic tenets are the same there are no problems then I despair of your naivety
I am pleased though it causes no issues for the couple you know.
I have no idea what an Apostles' Creed is.0 -

See post 103. This, or a slightly differently worded version that says the same thing, is used in both RC and many Protestant churches including Anglican.

And I never said there were not any problems. I said the basic belief was the same. If people chose to fight over it, then that is their doing, not the fault of the faith.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Otherwise know as the Credo (latin for "I believe") or just The Creed. Recited in most C of E church services....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I randomly saw a nun on the tube this morning. I'd say late 30's but particularly hot. I'm not going to marry her owt but I did have some mucky thoughts.0

" I have friends who are RC and CofE, there is not a problem there at all because it is the same religion"
To clarify because these religions have the same beliefs (basically) there are no problems?
I am glad that works for that couple.
Sadly in the wider world those same basic beliefs cause lots of problems.
Thank you for the link to the Apostles Creed, not something I have ever read before. Doubt I will have cause to read it again.0 -

Can I remind you what happened when Lord MacKay had the audacity to attend the funerals of two fellow lords?

I actually said that the couple I know have no problems with it. This is because they are Christians first and their denomination second. They agree on the basics and agree to differ on the non-essentials.
I agree people fight over it, as I said above, that is the fault of the people, not the faith.
St Augustine summed up how it should be:
“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
