I can't see anywhere in that article that gives the age of the skateboarder but even presuming he's a teenager you're hardly comparing like with like (as always!;))

That's an irate mom getting overly defensive when her child got hit by a skateboard.

Stupid situation, but hardly akin to the scenario in this thread.

That's an irate Mom (sic) who let her toddler wander around in a skate-park.

Stupid Mom to get into a stupid situation.

Agree, pointless comparison. First its from the US and second, the skateboarder is described as 'professional', implying he is and adult not a child. Did the person who posted the link even read the article???

    I agree it's a pointless comparison.

Even if the skateboarder is an adult, he's where he should be - in a skate park.
If I were a professional skate-boarder filming a segment', the last thing I'd expect to appear in front of me would be a child.
Let it be known that allowing your toddler to run amok at the skatepark without a helmet, pads or supervision is probably not a winning proposition.

By nature, these areas tend to have—ya know—a lot of skaters flying around at high speeds, and they’re not all going to be able to hardflip over your five-year-old.

Not until after actually, I assumed wrongly there.

I shared as it was a coincidence, and also because it shows that women are capable of being violent thugs without good reason, as j.e.j seems to be assuming the woman here must have had one.

Did you really need to SHOW us that some women are violent nutters? Gosh I was wondering what women's jails were for.

My neighbour where I used to live got a suspended sentence after getting on the school-bus and bashing the bus-driver (this was following an altercation between one of her kids and the driver in question)

I went to a girls school and some of the fights there, I swear they're more evil than boys!!

Just recently someone I know was beaten up by a drinking druggie (woman).

I have never said the woman in this thread was right to lay into the lad. In fact from the start I've said it's disgusting behaviour.

But you were saying the 13 year old must have provoked her?

Whichever scenario is closest to the truth (and at 13 he is still a child imo) adults should not rise to provocation in the way she did. There is simply no excuse for it.

At 13 he is neither a child nor a mature adult, but when you consider than 13 year old boys have been arrested for rape, mugging, and all manner of adult offences I can't concede that they are just children.

I wouldn't ever try and excuse the woman's behaviour. Clearly there's more to this than meets the eye, or she's a bit deranged!

I won't get involved in the girls fights at work (a rough pub) whereas I'll kick the blokes out for fighting. The girls are so much more vicious than the blokes when they get into it. They just don't stop at a reasonable point half the time.

I'm trying to see both sides to it. (Which is difficult, given that we don't have the whole story, I don't think.)

It sounded to me that she was leaping to the defense of the 11 year old.

Why was her reaction so violent and OTT? Don't know, we don't have enough detail to go on.

    Legally he is a child.

Fair enough. And I don't dispute that women are just as capable of violence [as men]. Women are not all cutesy, fluffy little selfless things like society says we should be. We are the physically weaker sex though, on average. In my own incident the teenage boy was at least as big as me.

And isn't the age of criminal responsibility 10?

What about in my situation in post #33? Should I just have stood there and got a kicking?

I don't think you should have hit him and caused actual harm.

You say it was instinctive, but suppose he had been 11, or 9 would you still have lashed out? It worries me that to hit out to a child was your first reaction. Although I appreciate you were probably annoyed, but did you feel threatened or unsafe?

In a busy station I would probably have grabbed his collar and taken him to a station official/police.
