You don't even need to make up a name they accept anonymous reports. I'd never give my name round where I live and when I've said that they've still taken my call and sent a car. They're really good about it round here and I assume its a nationwide policy :)

I said to make up a name because if the police say it was an anonymous call she will still blame the boy or his dad. a 'made up' name wont matter if they let it slip!

They may try to call that made up name as a witness which could affect their case when they come to prosecute. They may also realise its made up and think its a crank call.

Really? I'm just being realistic! 2 wrongs don't make a right, but if you pick on someone smaller than you, you're hardly in a position to complain when someone bigger than you then picks on you!

Unbelievable logic. There is a whole world of difference between a 13 year old making a nasty remark to an 11 year old, and a 40 year old woman then punishing him for it by assaulting him.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I don't understand why he's only thinking of calling the police.

I have to say he's a better person than I because I'd have ripped her head off there and then. I don't have kids. But my friends do and if I saw some 40 year old woman attacking one of them it would be the last thing she did for a very long time.

I know I should react like that and two wrongs don't make a right but I honestly don't think I'd have the restraint not to.

Call the police. Charge her with anything and everything possible. Scum bag that she is.

you don't understand why the dad is only 'thinking' of calling the police? I do, by calling the police he could get himself and his family 'targeted' by this awful woman and her family - and the police can't help them or wont help them. it isn't like an episode of 'The Bill'. they have to live there - they don't get put into 'Witness Protection'! they may get verbal or physical abuse or their home vandalised or even worse.

whilst I can understand your sentiments, surely we've got the society we've got because it's easier to walk on the other side of the street than to stand up and be counted???

And that's exactly how people like her get away with terrorising neighbourhoods for 20 odd years. Everybody lives in fear of speaking out in case of the repercussions and she goes on her merry way to continue battering kids. I complete understand why he would be scared and I wouldn't blame him if he thinks he will be terrorised further for reporting it but in the long run his silence continues the community's misery.

Meanwhile, children who harrass and make peoples lives a living nightmare get away with it time and time again.
Its not so long ago that a woman with a disabled child killed herself and the child because of years of taunts that the police did absolutley nothing about.
Obviously the woman did wrong by beating the child up. However very little is ever done about harrassing kids and people are just expected to suck it up and put up with them. Bullying kids cause all types of problems for their victims which can take years to overcome.
It sounds like the woman needs help with anger management/possible mental health issues, the Dad needs help with parenting and the child may need bereavement counselling. Will they get any help/support, thats the question.
