Adult beat up teen in street

40 year old woman visiting family in my road and told a 13 year old boy had taunted her 11 year old nephew, calling him four eyes as he wears glasses.

She had the 13 year old pointed out to her and launched a furious physical attack on him, kicking and punching him to the ground.

He had a tooth knocked out and suffered facial cuts and extensive bruising from where she kicked him in the ribs.

The boy's dad has recently been widowed and is trying to look after three kids on his own. He is very sad and weary at the moment. The 13 year old is a bit cheeky to some residents but fine with me.

The dad is considering calling the police as his son, though a teen, is still a child and this woman is 40.

What would you do?

I would have called the police immediately.

If it were the boys fighting, I would perhaps leave it and let them deal with it (IF the injuries weren't as serious as they are), stepping in if things didn't resolve.

But this is a 40yo woman who has assaulted a child and injured him severely. Without a hesitation, I would have called the police (assuming I hadn't seen that happening to my child and intervened in a not very polite way).
  • Call the police - why would you do anything otherwise?

His son has been assaulted. He should call the police.

It sounds like the son could do with some support too.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

    Police.

And if this 40 yo woman has her own children, or work with children, social services as well. She sounds pretty mental.

And if this bereaved man is struggling to raise 3 kids on his own, see if he can get some support and assistance.
  • Call the police..this is an assault.

If it was really as bad as you say I wouldn't have hesitated to call the police for one second even it had been an adult she had assaulted, not to mention a child.

Why were the police not called immediately instead of posting on an internet forum? Is there more going on here than has been disclosed?

Call the police. Why would anyone not? This woman is out of control.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Apart from the fact that I would be very surprised if 'four eyes' was used as an insult anywhere outside the pages of The Beano, and the lad is likely to have used somewhat more colourful language and tried to cover it up, yep, it was a pretty nasty assault and somebody who does that type of thing is quite likely to have previous, if not actually already being on bail or probation for something similar.

Personally, I'd contact the police, but I'd want to know whether this is just a tinpot thug or somebody with a huge family of nutters living in the immediate area first.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
