    Call the police right away.

My son (14) was punched in the face by an 18 y/o earlier this year and ended up with a fractured eye socket. The 18y/o has just been found guilty and now we are waiting for him to be charged. Although the age difference is a lot smaller the police took it very seriously.

I hope it turns out ok for the young lad.

I'd probably keep my mouth shut. No 13 year old lad would want the world to know he got beaten up by a woman.

Which is fine until she batters another child in the street. If she isn't held accountable this time she'll probably do it again. Someone who can grossly overreact and knock a child's tooth out is probably not mentally stable and balanced and is probably likely to fly off the handle again in the future. What if she cares for an elderly relative and she beats them in a fit of rage? The OP would have potentially had a chance to prevent that or at least flag up this woman's temperament but didn't to preserve a 13 year old's ego.

I would also call the police and press charges for assault.

There is no excuse for violence.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I really can't believe that OP you have put a thread up asking what to do, I would have thought common sense would prevail.

I think the most shocking aspect about the whole thing is that the police weren't called immediately.
The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best

I have to say that if a grown woman knocked my niece's tooth out they'd have to call the police pretty damn quick because I would be spitting bricks. I can't believe that ADULTS stood by whilst a grown woman beat a child and didn't call the police. If I saw someone beat a dog in the street I'd call the police, let alone a child.

OP, I understand that this boys father is having a tough time at the moment, but it might be worth pointing out that he has a responsibility to protect his son. Authorities may be concerned to find out that his son was attacked, and he did nothing about it.

My understanding is that the boy in question is NOT related to OP.

I wasn't saying that SHE was responsible but I'd be surprised to find that when there are kids are out in the street and an adult starts beating one up not one child ran home and said "MUM/DAD/NANNY/GRAMPS there's a lady outside and she's beating Bert (or whatever the child's name is) up". If you witness a serious crime in the street you should call the police, especially if the victim is vulnerable child.

The kids I know who play out run in all the time to tell us every small misdemeanor so I doubt they'd do nothing about something serious.

OP mentions a 'nephew', you said 'your niece' - I thought you had misread her post, that's all.
