if I want to make a soup in my pressure cooker using soup and broth mix, do I still need to soak the soup broth beforehand for eight hours/overnight?
TIA!0 -
have you got a cookbook with your PC because you probably don't have to soak soup mix, and can p cook it all from scratch, but you need to be careful with things like lentils (so they say) in case they whizz about and block up the vent, I always soak things anyway still (like canellini beans) but I know there are recipes which don't need to be soaked. If you can't find a recipe I'll look one up in my little magic cookbook !0

Hi Morgan
I have a few cookbooks but none of them mention pressure cookers, I've googled it, but still can't find anything. And I lost the instruction book to my pressure cooker in a housemove, so can't refer to that, though if memory serves me correct I think it did mention something about soup broth mix, which is frustrating! I've looked online for a replacement manual but no luck there either! Doh!
If you could have a look for me in your 'little magic cookbook' that would be fantastic, if only to settle my own curiousity about whether to soak or not!

I cook dried beans in mine
If my Rayburn wasn't on during the cooler months, I'd do my Christmas pudding and other steamed puddings (sweet and savoury) too.

WherE I would normally pressure cook already soaked broth for 5 minutes, I would cook dried broth for 20 minutes. Pressure cookers are brilliant!0

Thanks Heather25,I cannot believe more people dont use a pressure cooker, must admit tho,the memory of the hissing/spitting pan in our kitchen in the 70's terrified me for years, thankfully the new modern ones are nothing like that.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

From what I've read on the board, quite a few Old Stylers use pressure cookers (including me) but don't necessarily have specific recipes for it. I use mine a lot, particularly in winter, and just adapt my usual recipes to it. I'm sorry I can't help more, as most of my recipes are throw in a bit of this and a bit of that, perhaps it would be worth looking in your library for a pressure cooker recipe book?

I purchased a PC some months ago and love how it speeds up my spuds and veg, I have done some meats in it as well but what I can't understand is do you need to have all the food in the trivet and raised above the water. In many of the receipes it talks of browning the meat in hot oil before bringing it to pressure, so do you need to put the food in the trivet or do you just cook it all in the bottom of the PC.
Thanks for any help0
