Massive Seller Fee increases from 04/09/13

For most customers paypal is instant, it is only if they have any concerns (valid or otherwise) that they hold. It is as simple as that.
Soolin,
For most customers paypal is probably instant, as in they take the money instantly. However, for sellers it isn't instant. I'm selling some non expensive items (mostly sub £20) on a 6 year old account. They're Airfix kits, not gold sovereigns.
I'm really not sure what concerns that they they have on an 'old' ebay account selling £20 items. If you wish to PM me, I'll send you my account details, so you can check for yourself.
The top and bottom of it is, if ebay/paypal has a concern, then they should reject payment, holding on to the payment for 3 days is just profiteering. I'm more than happy with ebay/paypal looking after the buyer, I'm not happy with them earning interest in their bank account for 3 days.
The message says nothing about, we're checking the authenticity of the payment, it merely states, we're going to sit on the payment for 3 days, then we're going to release it having received the interest.0 -
I had already cleared my PayPal balance this morning for overnight sales but in case there was a glitch I have just made a second withdrawal of a few pounds.
Both payments have appeared as cleared in my linked bank accounts and that includes a payment made by a customer at 9.35 am this morning.
I have heard, and there has been threads on here before about random checks but they tend to be for a few hours or at best a day. I know that when faster payments was eventually rolled out by PayPal a number of people reported holds..but there is no mention of that anymore on here or on the community boards.

Hi
Like Soolin, my withdrawals are now within minutes of hitting the button to move them.
If you've butted heads with paypal before, as you say, then that might be why you experience delays.
I wouldn't think they prioritize people because they're good customers, but I'd be surprised if they didn't push those that have been problematic to the back of any queues.Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
Should OF, would OF. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.0 -

The top and bottom of it is, I've sold some stuff on ebay and my buyers have paid ME through paypal. They want their goods and ebay/paypal tell them that as a good seller, they should get their goods quickly.
ebay/paypal are hanging on to the money for 72 hours, as confirmed by their Indian call centre staff. We're not talking dodgy stuff being sold here, we're talking Airfix kits. If ebay/paypal want exemptional service for their (my) customers, then they should clear the payments promptly.
There is no excuse for this, they are not checking anything, they have put a 72 hour hold on payments, which will 'in their own call centre words' be automatically released after 72 hours. They're taking the money and sitting on it for 3 days, nothing more, nothing less.
And people will still defend ebay and Soolin I'll give you my account details if you want to check this. And to all others, no I don't have to use ebay, but I'm still entitled to show them up for the money grabbing tax avoiders that they are.0 -

Maybe this is the only excuse that they need.I wouldn't put ebay/paypal and comply with UK laws in the same sentence. They have some sharp practices. I personally have told them to go and swing on two occasions for a total of about £2,000.
I have invited them and their debt collectors to take me to court and have had them remove their reports on my credit rating. A letter asking them which credit agreement I had signed does the trick. Funnily enough, they have declined to see me in the county court, I know if someone owed me £2,000 I would have an LBA within a week.0 -

Another poster defending ebay/paypal, who rip people off, by holding on to their money- hey -ebay/paypal any time you want to to take me to court and PROVE that you're not ripping people off, then come have a go.
Stop defending a company that according to the Telegraph, avoids paying its £50 million a year tax bill.
I wonder how many of my buyers are going to give me good feedback, whilst their purchase goes nowhere, as ebay/paypal sit on it for 3 days?0 -

You are already know the answer to your last point and surely will not be shocked if your stars suffer. In fact if buyers do start opening cases for their goods I am sure your paypal hold will be extended as they will see the hold as being justified.
As for the rest, I am sure you are aggrieved at this, but you are not listening to what we are saying. By all means storm off and take whoever you want to court, that is your right under UK law. However the correlation between your 'history' with ebay and paypal and the issues you are having must surely be in the back of your mind.
I love a good debate, truly I do, but you keep going off on a tangent every time your argument or point of view is questioned. You are entitled to your opinion, I would defend your right even if I disagree with you, but just assuming that the rest of us are somehow collaborating with the enemy is nonsense, just because we can work with a system that you find difficult doesn't mean we are wrong. The very fact you start accusing people of all manner of nonsense rather shows your argument has run out of steam.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Instead of asking people to stop defending them, why don't you have the courage of your convictions and stop using them?
Surely by using them and paying them money you are just helping them.
Just about every single post of yours states how bad both ebay and paypal are, yet you seem happy enough to keep paying fees to them.
As to the tax avoidance.
What they are doing is perfectly legal, and if governments want to stop this sort of practice, why don't they change the laws?
Maybe because so many MP's also make use of tax avoidance schemes.
I pay as little tax as possible as I employ a tax advisor to sort this out for me and everything I do is above board and I see nothing wrong in this.0 -
God, it sickens me to see the number of fools rushing to defend ebay - this same company that is paying virtually no tax in this country and doing every legal dodge to avoid it. Whilst they then gouge 10% on your postage cost, plus Paypal (which was 3.4% plus 20p for non powersellers when I last turned over decent money) so they're already creaming about 15% of the postage cost, whilst shouting from the roofs, don't let that selling charge you a penny over marked postage, because we want our commission on it.
And we have people defending this company that refuses to pay tax in this country. Common sense died long ago.
Here here!0 -

Okay, let me go through your points in order.
Yep, I'll get hit big time on feedback & DSRs. But let's ask why that is, because I'm a lazy seller or because Paypal have held on to MY money and I'm not interested in shipping MY goods in the hope that Paypal will send me the money? I agree to sell an item and pay ebay their cost I also agree to pay Paypal their cost, and the customer expects prompt delivery, which I'd dearly like to do. However, I'm not going send MY property whilst Paypal holds onto money sent to me.
Now, my history of issues with ebay/paypal are quite rational. I expect them to adhere to UK law. I have challenged them twice on this and asked them to take me through the judicial system twice, to clarify that what they have done is legal. They have declined to take up this challenge, which, whilst not indicating that they have done anything illegal, is an indicator that they probably feel that they're on a sticky wicket.
There is nothing about collaborating with the enemy. I just take a stance that people who defend a company, that says fee avoidance should be stamped upon whilst they think that tax avoidance is perfectably acceptable. Plus, they want me to ship MY goods immediately whilst they hold on to the buyers and MY money for 3 days (I'm still offering to send you screen shots if you want) purely because they feel like it, is a bit sharp practice.
I do apologise if I come across as a mad ranty person. I can assure that I'm not mad and if you met me in person, I'm quite sane. Although I may struggle to defend the ranty accusation.
PS Irrelevant bit of trivia. I once bumped into Cally in a hotel on the south coast in June 2005 whilst taking a power boat course, she was attending a local theatre from memory. I should imagine that most on here will go, Hoggy has finally lost it, what is he talking about and the answer to that is Blake's 7.0
