Oh Lucie. Do read the MSE How to Complain info before complaining anywhere again.

If you only want the candle & glass back - to prove your boyfriend didn't buy you a cheap knock off and to prove your allegation that Jo Loves are selling substandard merchandise - then you shouldn't have sent the candle & glass remains back to Jo Loves in the first place. My advise would be to forget the crusade and get on with life.

If you want financial compensation for the candle, the table and the carpet then send the Jo Loves solicitor a request for reimbursement enclosing the estimates for replacements/repair of the 3 items (candle/table/carpet) together with your photographs showing the lighted candle, the broken glass and the wet wax on the table & carpet before you cleaned it up. Keep your claim letter to a couple of paragraphs with no emotive language or threats.

I don't think she will be back....it's important op you found out WHERE it was purchased. If you see from those links, it sounds like a fake.

That said what does it say about the company and specialist maker, if they don't spot the knock off and inferior materials

Which is why for their sake I'm kind of hoping it is legit. So op has a claim and they avoid the embarrassment of saying a fake is ok

Haven't read much of the thread, but I had a problem with Jo Malone a few years back. I had a travel size version of bath oil which I used on holiday and never had problems with, so when I returned I loved it so much I bought the full size. I took a bath and it burnt my skin, I took pictures and it was if I had had a chemical peel on my face, bright red, I had to take the day off from work as the skin was sensitive to everything. It was like it had literally taken the top layer of skin off.

Popped into Jo Malone to show them the pictures and to say that basically we thought it was a bad batch as the travel version had been fine. They asked us to bring the remaining oil into them so they can send it off for testing. Fine we thought, so we took the oil in.

Three months later, we popped in to ask what was happening. The oil was still sat on the manager's desk and he reply was, "I haven't bothered sending it off yet because there can't be anything wrong with it", because obviously because it's top dollar and Jo Malone there can't be a problem in production. A week after they posted the oil back to the house with no correspondence or anything and the bottle got damaged in the post, resulting in a very wet badly packaged parcel.I didn't bother chasing them and just simply haven't shopped there since as those sort of responses aren't worth my time or money.

As I say, I haven't read the whole OP or replies, but if it is a genuine Jo Malone candle I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to snuff you out with responses.

I do get that impression from their responses, that they are high end so it can't possibly them at fault....despite ops bad complaint. I wouldn't shop there if I were a potential customer, neither comes off great.

I will :rotfl: if it is a fake though and the so called experts and finest of the finest never spotted it.

Yes, that is exactly the impression I got, that there must be something wrong with my skin or something I did to cause the issue (despite the fact the first bath oil was okay), and that because it's 'Jo Malone' it's perfect and nothing can ever go wrong.

I would also highly doubt if the candle has actually gone to france and would bet a fiver it's sat on someone's desk in Jo Malone HQ. I would also wonder whether the fact that the glass being too dangerous to send back to OP is because they have lost said candle.

Edit: OP, I'd drop it if I were you. Do what I did and vote with your feet and never, ever give them a penny of your hard earned cash again. If you want a nice candle, I bought some from Rituals. They are £15, last just as long and smell just as nice as Jo Malone, and none of the snooty backchat.

Aileth, that's a terrible story about Jo Malone. Tell you what -You can add me to the list of people not buying Jo Malone having heard your story.

Despite OP's clumsy complaint, I too felt Jo Loves didn't handle the situation well. They jumped to their solicitors very fast for a minor consumer complaint and I'm not convinced about the testing tale.

Have you ever bought from them to start with?

I never have and am likely never going to but not down to this thread.

Yes I've bought a couple of times as presents but not spent as much as OP.

I'd decided never to buy from this company before I read any further than the OP's first 5 words.
overview, I bought a £75 candle from jo loves a very well know company from jo Malone.

I have much better things to do with £75 than to buy a candle and set fire to it. :rotfl:
