Lucie, you said you would listen to advice in your first post. Your most recent post makes me think you are not at all interested in advice, but would like some support for your feelings and claims about this case.
If it can be shown that the candle was not lit when the glass broke, and I do feel that this should be relatively easy, then you have absolutely no claim at all because the burns could not have resulted from the incidence of breakage of the candle. Whether that fits what really happened when you were in the room or not, you'd need a very good solicitor to get past that fact if you want to claim burn damages.
I'm not a legal expert but I would say that your claims of poor customer service are not credible. From what I see, you have been rude and attacking in your correspondence with both JLL and the solicitor. They have been polite and reasonable in their correspondence, even if they were slow.
You posted the item to them without being asked to. You cannot demand that they do the same thing just because you chose to do it.
They have not refused to return it to you, they have quite reasonably said you can collect it.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

There seems to be some extremely aggressive tones for what appears to be non Jo loves employees, it's good to see we have such spirited people who are so keen to make sure consumers within their rights are bullied into a corner?0

Personally I can' think of anything more 'reckless' than to have a house with a child in it full of potential naked flames. Candles are dangerous enough with just adults around, let alone kids.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The point is you were in the room, and so you should have been. The general advice given out on any candle is never to leave a burning candle unattended. Never ever leave a child alone in a room with a burning candle.0 -
Expensive is a relative word, the cost of my table is not really the argument, but don't worry the insult was heard.0

On a table? Do you suggest people with children also have no kettles ovens etc? What an unusual request?!?0

And if it had burned my house down my child would have remained safe because?0

I'm sorry I posted it on the wrong board, it's my 1st post, it's not an unwillingness to accept other people's opinion, I am asking for consumer help and where to start when I bought a candle, suffered damage, returned it, they didn't respond and then kept it.
That are the facts.
I haven't at any point asked for you to price my house up ( several have wanted to, or question how I spend my money.
I'm new to forums but surely the point is to give helpful advice on said topic, or maybe give help on a topic to somebody else if you can't think of anything helpful to say?
Thank you to the people who have given advice, please do not let other people deter you from doing this.

Jo Loves said they had passed the candle to their manufacturer for inspection. From the correspondence you posted, it appears that it was collected from, and returned to Jo Loves in person, not via post or courier.
The solicitor is the one who mentions an expert. I think that is a mistake on their part, but not really one that undermines their case. They can easily argue that the manufacturer is de facto an expert, as long as they have a reasonable history of manufacturing candles at the top end of the market as evidenced by their being used by Jo Loves.0 -
I have read all this thread and I have to say, All it shows is, If no one is agreeing with you, You get your back up.
This forum is about moneysaving & alike, Therefore when your asking about a candle at a cost many people could use to pay a weeks rent, cloth their child ect, Its liable to get people’s backs up.
In the first post, You became arrogant & was asking for a lot. You wanted every last part of a broken candle sent back in the original packaging, This wouldn’t happen with any company.
If you threaten a company with legal action, Then you “must” expect the same.
I think personally, On this occasion you have bitten off more than you can chew & your very unclear in what you want as an outcome. You state you have house insurance, Why not contact them & see if legal cover is part of your insurance like already suggested?
You also stated that you had photographs, Yet, You have been asked more than once by the company owner to produce them & from the looks of your comments, You haven’t.
Sometimes, Its better to just cut all losses and move on.Future goals:

Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy0
