If you check the website on the previous Friday - click on "Manage My SMARTS" and it will tell you which SMART to put in which envelope. Then when you click on the item in the list to say you have prepared it - the web page will ask you to confirm which SMART you used. Remember all the training SMARTS were ABCD - the live ones have individual codes.
If"Manage My SMARTS" says there are SMARTS to be returned, then as GRB said - you can put them together in the prepaid envelope (the foil lined one) to TNS.

and you only ever need use "Manage My Smarts" to either record the ID of those that you are returning to TNS (only having been asked to do so) or to double-check what is recorded as being "in stock"
When you access the online "Posting Plan" it tells you which SMART Number to put in which 'Poster Item Number' providing you wait until they have been allocated by TNS - that's on the Friday preceding the week when they will need posting.

Since we are on the topic of smarts, I have about 4 smarts (real ones) that aren't on my 'manage my smarts' list. They were sent with the welcome letter to the live programme about 2 weeks ago. Should I wait or should I return them since they aren't on the list?0

As you have had them for 2 weeks, I suggest that you return them in one of their envelopes.
The following is advice from FAQ's on their website which covers most queries
I have a SMART that does not appear on my online “Manage my SMARTs” list. What do I do?
If you have received a SMART that do not appear in your “manage my SMARTs” list, please wait until Friday, as that is when the online schedule is updated.
If the SMART has not appeared on your stock list by Friday, please return the SMART to us in one of our pre-paid SMART Return Envelopes. You do not need to enter online that you have returned this unrecognised SMART to us.0 -
After 4 weeks "training" and two weeks twiddling my thumbs with no items to post and nothing heard from TNS, I am finally back on the main survey for the 4th time. Six items for the first week, which is more than usual but half of them are to be posted on the same day. And my first cube to post, oh joy2020 Wins:

You are, of course, correct "Manage My SMARTS" tells you if they are associated - "Posting Plan" tells you which item they are associated with. I've got into the habit of looking in that order before going through the pile of physical SMARTS I've amassed.I need to think of something new here...0 -

Re My SMART Query above I got a reply from TNS as
Thank you for your email.
You should be able to fit up to eight standard Smarts in a Smart return envelope.
