If you are on holiday for more than 3 weeks you definitely need to contact the helpdesk. I have done this in the past and they sort it for you. HTH

You don't need to contact them!
If I have long spells away, say 4 weeks, I just book 2 two-week consecutive holidays, or 4 one-week holidays.
Recording holidays always seems pretty pointless however, as even though I diligently give them the required notice, more often than not, they pay no attention to my holiday schedule. Afterwards I just post any overdue stuff under the 'post asap on the same day of the week' rule.
Tip: Has it occurred to everyone that you can also use the 'same day of the week' rule to post items early too! If I have stuff to post next week when I'm away, if an item and Smart are ready to post, I post them a week early - rather than posting them late.
Tip: Those cardboard inserts for Jiffy envelopes are pretty useless as they flatten, causing items to appear 'over-stamped'. I push one insert I've received inside one I'm sending (at right-angles), creating a little shallow box. A bit of tape helps it to stay that shape, which means the package stays as a 'Small Parcel' rather than it turning itself into a 'Large Letter'.

Anyone got any tips on lying? The one thing I hate about the job is posting the 'cubes' at the Post Office. I hate the interrogation session about contents, and having to lie.

    Hi

Just says it's a foam sample.

I know that the 'official' lie we're supposed to use (which ought to be updated now to 'polystyrene' LOL), but it sounds so silly IMO.

    Hi

I agree, I hate the parcels, every time I do one I think it's time to give up. A foam sample just sounds so stupid and as I know the guy at the post office I can't help thinking he knows I'm doing the survey, surely he must do. He also knows I don't deal in foam so it's just tricky all round. If the box sizes were different it would be better.

I have had several of these cubes to post and and always use the main post office in the city and to date I have never been asked what is inside. Perhaps I am just lucky.

My advice to anyone who finds it all too much is to give it up because there are plenty of other people who would like the opportunity to participate and with Christmas just around the corner the free stamps would come in very useful.
  • Also got a cube to post this week! How often should I receive stamps? I've sent 2 items for the past 5 weeks and only had the first set of stamps so far.
  • To wot I do, 'just say it child's plastic jewellery and is worth zilch'. Silly questions deserve sill answers IMHO.

At the post office the guy has a poster with all the prohibited things on it which he hands to me. I take a look, say none of those, then it's ok. I haven't looked hard enough to see if a square of foam is pictured!!

I do find it awkward though.

I always get asked what's inside. I always say foam samples. Don't see the problem with giving that as an answer.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Think the last time I was asked what was in the cube I told them in was "an example of packaging which had to go fully built so couldn't be posted flat." That shut them up! :D
