Had to smile - the DWP rang me today (I was standing in the queue at the supermarket so asked that they call me back in about half an hour), well an hour later they phoned to tell me that they cannot look at my claim because their computers have gone down and could they call me tomorrow?

I am guessing my stuff got processed fairly quickly (although I had to wait for a long time before I was called to the initial assessment) because of the fact that I live in Birmingham and the DWP letter came from Wolverhampton.

I feel sorry for those that have to deal with ATOS. The government shouldn't have meddled with the DLA system and kept it as it was, however, they should have been more rigorous when it came to false claimants.

ATOS are poor, but I don't think Capita are any better, and as G4S are being mooted to take over from ATOS with ESA (they of London 2012 security chaos, and prisoner foul ups) I cannot see life improving much.

    Lin :(
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

We have been very lucky compared to most, Made claim on behalf of Hubby Oct 14th 2013, had assessment with Atos Dec 16th, Atos had it for 6 weeks in audit, Passed to DWP Feb 6th Decision made and enhanced care awarded Feb 21st Back dated money in account the same day as award notification arrived Feb 27th, I requested a copy of the Atos report and that arrived today and was very accurate account of the assessment! and I must say Every time I rang Atos they kept me well informed and So did the DWP and for that I am Grateful, We live in Suffolk and attended a centre in Colchester.
  • Wow maisiemou you have been very very lucky. Glad it's working in other parts of the country because I think the wheels have come off the wagon in the north east.
RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

    Yes Maisiemou- very lucky
I'm in Dundee (east Scotland for those who don't know where it is)
    It's a shambles here
  • I know! We have been very lucky and it should be the same for everyone! Regardless of where You are I found it the most stressful thing I have dealt with in a long time and it was not even My claim, Although caring for My Hubby whilst dealing with it all is not the easiest thing I have done! Hubby did not have anything to do with it as He has been so unwell, He never said a word at the assessment as he was so distressed and I had to speak for him But what I am most concerned about is there must be others like My Hubby and there is absolutely No Way He could have made the claim or even ask for help! He does not use a computer and will not use a phone So what happens to these people Who have no one to act on their behalf! I hope Everyone going through this gets a fair assessment and a good outcome As I am not disabled and I found the waiting to find out was the most difficult! Good Luck Everyone x
  • I agree that for some people the whole process must be impossible to cope with. My partner was diagnosed with neuro sarcoidosis last September. This has resulted in him not being able use his hands and walking is very difficult. I phoned the PIP claim number on December 6th and returned the claim form on the 31st December. We had the assessment, by Atos, on the 14th of February and received the letter from the DWP on Tuesday 4th May. All of the arrears were pqaid into my partners account yesterday.

I couldn't believe how quick this all happened after reading the problems on this forum but I do not know how some people manage to sort out the paperwork etc when they are not able to write or cope with stress.
I feel glad that our experience was not a long drawn out one but my heart goes out to people kept hanging on.
