My daughter was put on a lower rate of pip last Jan having been on high rate mobility and low rate care DLA. We appealed and she now gets high rate pip and lower rate care or whatever it is called now that was back in March too. She has a reassessment last Friday at home this time but awaiting outcome.

She too has a disability that will only get worse. CMT type 1A and we supplied medical evidence supporting her condition yet she has again had to go through assessment again.

She is fed up of them continuing asking her question she quite clearly can not walk very far unaided its bad enough she walks with sticks abet very slowly and with some discomfort.

On top of that she need help washing, dressing and is unable to stand very long before falling over.

    Good luck Hastobe_Katt

Hi, I have a few questions re PIP time frames etc and would really appreciate people's experiences.

I transferred from DLA to PIP last year, completing the paperwork in March and was awarded enhanced rate mobility and standard rate care in July for two years after an assessment. In May this year (just 10 months on) I got the brown envelope through the door to be reassessed for PIP. TBH, I was a bit surprised but did some digging and it appears that DWP policy is to call you 12 months before your award expires (or in my case 14 months.)

Without going into the gory details, my disability is permanent and the prognosis is that I will deteriorate not improve - with no options for interventive treatment...but this is the DWP :(.

My question is: I have just mailed the forms back to them. There's no real new evidence as it is such a short time since my last assessment - though I have resent the copious copy letters, reports etc which I sent to them last year. We go away on holiday in a few weeks and I'm concerned that the assessment will be scheduled for while we are away. What are the current time frames from application form to assessment? We're in the Midlands area.

Given the short interval since my transfer to PIP and face to face assessment am I likely to be called for a medical? The last DLA application (renewal) they awarded on the basis of the information sent and didn't ask to see me but I imagine things have become more stringent not less. They do seem to have created an industry out of this.

Also, despite my comments above (trying to be pragmatic), the 10 month review time frame seems very silly in the context of my disability. Is this common? Are there longer awards with PIP than 2 years?

    TIA
They can call you for a re-assessment at anytime. Although it's usually a year before your award ends. As it's not that long since your last assessment i would send in the same evidence as last time. Whether or no you have an assessment will depend on how much evidence they have. Some people are awarded without the need for an assessment. The max length of award is 10 years, i believe. I have heard of some people getting this. Good luck.

My mum went for a re assessment on 16th May, got a letter dated 2nd June saying we're sorry it's taken longer than expected to give you a decision on your claim.... Still hasn't heard and her PIP runs out in 7 days! She's tried to get through numerous times on the phone with no success - does anyone know if there's a helpline or alternative number????

her award will continue until a decision is made so top panicking
  • Hi all, I had my PIP renewal form a few weeks ago, I sent it back two weeks ago with a letter from my care worker (mental health) and a list of all the meds I'm on from my GP.
I know it's only been two weeks but I'm already worrying about it.
Does anyone know how long the renewals take to get a decision in the post please?
Thanks to anyone who can help me

I had my pip awarded today, I called this morning and was told I got enhanced care and standard mobility until 2020 .
My previous award of standard care expired on July 23rd and I got all the paperwork sent off by beginning of July.
last time I had to go to tribunal which was only last November, and it took a whopping 72 weeks start to finish so this time I didn't want anything to go wrong..
I now also have a social worker and she came with me to the medical which was August 2nd and made sure they had as much evidence as possible. We submitted something like 11 pieces of evidence and she took notes during to make sure there were no mistakes on atos part...

This my 4th attempt at any fairness and at last I feel I got the right award...:j
  • Had my decision letter today, exactly 6 weeks and 1 day since the assessment.
  • My mum is just going through the Dla to Pip conversion, but her timescales have been drastically different to most on this thread.
08/08/16: We phoned and claimed Pip, 09/08/16: We received a text saying they had sent the form out, 12/08/16: We got the form, 28/08/16: We sent the form, back, 31/08/16: We received a text saying they had received form. 04/09/16: Letter stating my mum would have a home visit by Atos on 21/09/16. Assessment was over in 20 minutes, it was done by a nurse who seemed quite nice, she asked a few questions and when it came to physical, she said i usually do a physical now but I'm not sure, if your mum can't do one it doesn't matter. She then said that she had everything needed and apologised for upsetting my mum (she did not upset her, mum sometimes cries if a stranger is nearer her). Today 23/09/16 We got a text saying Dwp had all the info needed to make a decision and they would get in touch soon.
It all seems extremely quick to me and am worried they are just rushing it through to fail her. Will post when we get the decision.
  • I moved from dla to pip in the late summer just gone . From start to finish it took 6 weeks . Decision based purely on what I stated in the relevant parts of the form . They must have also checked on the dla award (indefinite) because they didn't contact either gp or consultant this time around . I'm now good until the review in 2026 , though as disability will become a devolved matter in Scotland that scale may alter somewhat .

They should not be stopping anything related to dla whilst going through a pip period , I'm sure it states that somewhere in documents .
