Sounds a bit like the carrot on a stick. People after waiting a ridiculous amount of time will accept anything that is offered. Am I being suspicious of the DWP's motives - to right I am. Especially when I read of the many claimants that go for a MR and behold they are offered considerably more!

When the decision in writing appears, look at how they calculated it compared to what you put in your application. If you feel its wrong ask for a re-assessment.

I did, it took 7 days and we got a much better result, especially if you can add some supporting evidence or get a charity that deals with his type of disability to help you.

The whole system is a shambles, as my daughters's application proved. 0-0 first time. Re-assessment 21- 12

There is an appeal after that, so if you have genuine needs then push it all the way

I never realised how hard it was for genuine disabled people to get what they needed from the state until we faced the same dilemma in our household.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

But that is were the problem is.
One person's perception of being disabled may not be the same for the DWP.

The question should be, who and under what context is someone to be described as disabled?

I know we are, but we don't have any recognised authority that has confirmed that. So are we or not?
  • I would suggest that if you don't know if you are then you are not. I KNOW I am. The exception to this would be people who lack the insight to be able to tell.

Thanks, you like my wife and myself BELIEVE we are but what we haven't got is an formal authorative statement that says we ARE.

How do you KNOW you are and not BELIEVE that you are?

Saying that you are disabled is simply your own personal belief.
That is unless you have it recorded that you have been found to be disabled.

What I am trying to say is that people say that they are instead of saying that they think they are.

Because it affects my whole life, and I have written statements from professionals stating that it is so and that is is chronic...

As far as I am aware, they is no record of being disabled nowadays, there used to be some kind of register I think

it is still usual for the blind to be registered, and some councils hold their own register of other disabilities but it isn't the norm

We have received our award. Enhanced rate on both till 2019. Most stressful 8 months of my life. Can't believe it's finally over but I do realise there are people who have waited a lot longer than we have. Good luck to everyone still waiting x
