Lazy day today really. confused Barnes by going up the shop this morning instead of at 6.00pm sharp! (lol, that is OHs doing btw - he likes precision timing and habitual behaviour - so I do my 'daily shop' on his timetable) OH on call this week so starting later. when I came back he sat by his feeding station looking hopefully at me - expecting a Sheba pouch or a Gourmet Perle. this happens every five weeks! you would think he would know by now, as usually he has an almost magical sense of day and time!
his bad patch is still a bit bloody and sore looking. it IS healing though and no sign of infection (I was a bit worried about that). more catnip tea applications have stopped him scratching it though.
he is currently asleep in my place on settee again. OH must have offended him somehow.........Barnes is ignoring him quite pointedly!
I have a couple of new toys stashed away - will get one out tomorrow and see if he wants to play - he isn't interested even in pingponguppastairs today.
arrrrrgh local shop only had salmon dreamies and Barnes is allergic to fish! had to buy happy shopper dreamie 'lookalikies'. but, I very quietly transferred them to the dreamies bag, shook the bag and Barnes came running. he ate three of them quite happily!0 -
another lazy day, and I get more this week, no GS as his mum and dad both have a week off! so I get one too! I bet Barnes is expecting me to get up at silly o'clock though! he is going to be disappointed.
its Tuesday so its Grandgirls day.
K made me laugh, she said 'Nanny you know that Kong thingy? well I took it home and the Cats took it off me - they are fighting over it! they love it! but it DOES smell of catnip.' I asked her how she knew and she said she can smell it. I cant - I even opened a bag of catnip and took a deep sniff and still couldn't smell anything! K can though.
can anyone else smell it?
Barnes greeted her but then went back to napping. K came down before her sisters got here as she is still waiting for a school placement. think she is a bit bored at home.
Barnes didn't budge even though he must have heard the other girls come in and Atrix too. he normally runs down to get his 'fuss'.
Barnes is a bit anti-social right now - I think its because every couple of hours he gets drenched in catnip tea. he is starting to look at me very warily. he doesn't mind the extra dreamies though.
and his appetite is returning - he is eating much better this week than he has been.0 -
Well, Barnes was a live wire today! got that little pressie out for him and he loved it. ANOTHER catnip mouse! we played a version of Pingponguppastairs only it was mousyuppastairs, lol. He had a lot of fun with that! chased it up the stairs, batted it about, 'cornered it and killed it), batted it to the bottom of the stairs where he could have a nice 'rabbit' kick and roll over and over with it.........jeez, a good ten minutes before his eyes went a bit funny and he zonked out! he has retired to windowsill now and is more 'draped' over it stoned outta his mind, than curled up and napping!
his wounds are healing nicely (I cant recommend the catnip infusion too highly - it seems to stop the itching in its tracks and helps with any inflammation and the healing). his appetite is better than it was before, and he is back to my lovely Barney again! all we need now is for his neck ruff to grow back!0 -
my Giz is immune to catnip and he doesn't play with top, though he likes string and will attack my fingers running over the sofa, he also like feathers!Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

Meritaten, how do you prepare the catnip infusion? I was wonering whether it would help my ever balding (due to overgrooming) Scrappy.0

just like loose tea. I take a good pinch, about a teaspoonful and put it into a mug, then pour boiling water on top and leave to infuse. I leave it until cool then pour through a tea strainer into a little jar with a lid. this will keep in the fridge. then I pour a little in a bowl and use a cotton wool ball or piece of sponge to gently dab on Barney. I know its safe because cats eat it and it really does seem to work - but Barnes does tend to groom it off, so don't know how helpful it would be for scrappy. it may well help in that licking the catnip might er, um 'mellow' him out? and the stuff is cheap enough! I also have to say his fur is developing a nice shine and its looks in better condition, but that could be the result of the Drontal from a couple of weeks back.0

Barnes had a visitor today - DD and her friend were in the vicinity so DD brought 'Nomi' in to meet Barnes. she fell in love! She had a Persian years ago and he was a solid red, where Barnes is red and white. but, Barnes put her in mind of her old cat.
I know Nomi and knew her when they had the previous cat. he was an old 'scrapper' and a bit of a character. the Persian was previous to him.
Nomi loved Barnes 'flat face' - hers was more British Persian. a slight scoop to the muzzle area. she couldn't get over his amazing amber eyes - in person they are startling - they glow you see, like real amber does. lol, he is a bit 'reserved' on meeting strangers so I gave her his bag of dreamies and told her to go for it. when I saw him looking up at her and ignoring the dreamie I told her to rub his nose - he absolutely loves that! voila! instant friend!
roflmao - she is now a Barney fan! and wants another Persian, but it must be like Barnes!
Was feeling a bit lazy tonight so did microwave rice - when Barnes ran in the kitchen I realised...........the rice bag sounds the same as the dreamies bag! had to give him a couple of dreamies! so he is way over his dreamies limit today! no matter - he could do with a few extra ounces on him.0 -

Hmmm...I might get mum to try it. It can't make his over grooming any worse (mum's started giving him Ovarid again) and perhaps licking it off will chill him out.0
-
I hope it works his missus!
I haven't seen a lot of Barnes today - he has been on upstairs windowsill for most of it! apart from coming down to check on me and for his 'groom and treats'. I really must clean the window tomorrow, the sun shining through it really shows up the streaks of 'kittysnot' he leaves on it! lol
Oh on callout duty this weekend so I may have to postpone Barnes food shop until Monday. no problem really as I have plenty of food left from last time. I just wanted to get more 'flea tablets' and some worming tabs.
I have decided to give the spot ons a rest and not to use flea collars. darn cat is allergic to everything! the 'Felix Unger' of the cat world! (if you are too young to remember 'The Odd Couple' don't worry bout it - Felix was a guy who had 'allergies'!). The flea tablets seem to work so will get more in. but I think he needs worming, a multiwormer for preference.0
