oooohhhh, lovely long lie in til 8.30am! rofl - in my pre-marriage days a lie in meant I got up in time for Sunday Lunch at 12.30! Barnes seems to have embraced the Sunday lie in idea too - he didn't appear for his breakfast til nearly 10.00! with a bald patch near his tail! dammit! I bought advantage 'spot ons' and he still has a flea or two! I realise this may be from a just hatched flea which might be killed in the near future (THAT is guaranteed if I can find the little bu99er), but, I sprayed the house back 6 months or so ago and that's supposed to last a year. I use spot ons, I have even used a flea collar as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what MORE can I do?
research needed now to find an effective flea killer! the spot on hasn't worked (or not very effectively), I put the flea collar back on him - but frankly, wonder how effective they are as they aren't sold in sealed packaging and may even be hanging around the shop for months!
bring back the olden days! I remember 30 odd years ago sprinkling first cat with Johnsons Flea Powder and fitting a flea collar on him and he was fine! rarely did I see a flea on him. and he was an 'outdoor/indoor' cat!
poor Barnes - he got a nice sponge bath with the catnip tea, but he is a bit antisocial again today. spent most of it on the kitchen windowsill or upstairs on bedroom windowsill.0 -

Someone mentioned these....they do work.
be very careful applying anything against the fleas while he has broken skin....it can cause a horrible reaction.0 -
thank you paddy paws - I was ultra careful to apply the spot on only where there were no bites (ended up in a short line from between his ears almost to his shoulder blades). I couldn't find Capstan tabs so I bought Johnsons 4 fleas and a new flea collar. fingers crossed. If the grandkids don't come after school tomorrow the house is getting sprayed again. or I may do it during the day and Barnes and I will go sit in the car with a book!0

the tab seems to be working, just took a couple of dead fleas off him! he is napping on kitchen windowsill right now. loathe to disturb him again to check for fleas, cos he is getting a tad fed up of me scooping him up and checking his tummy and nether regions. yowled at me quite impatiently last time, and did a single somersault with twist to get away from me!
got his favourite toy and gave it to him and he is 'cuddling' it. but I get 'The Glare' now when I go near him!
I think he suspects I sneak a tablet in while feeding him dreamies. he crunches the first two or three, but I know he just gulps down the rest, so tablets get given after four dreamies. and the fifth is swiftly produced! saves messing about 'hiding' them in treat sticks or prawns!
thank the pet gods for 'dreamies'! without them, I wouldn't be able to groom him properly, or give him tablets.
I can remember trying to give worming tabs to previous cats - and it was a stressful experience for all!0 -
he is licking a lot, but I couldn't find any fleas or recent bites - perhaps the healing ones are itching a bit?
he is a lot brighter in himself - he fished a pingpong ball out of his toy basket earlier, then sat with it in front of him and stared hopefully at me, (his way of saying 'fancy a game of pingponguppastairs, mum?'). so he spent a lovely ten minutes tearing up and down the stairs batting balls and chasing them.
he hasn't done that for days! of course this tired him out and he decided to nap on my chair infront of the computer. Strange! he usually prefers windowsills in the day! but then, the chair is located only a few feet from the bottom of the stairs!
No1 son came in this evening wanting to use my hot glue gun - he had a parcel he needed to secure the polystyrene packing in. of course as soon as he opened the box lid, Barnes was in there! he loves boxes with lids! he especially likes you to close the lid on him............and he really loved this box cos the lid was slightly damaged and he could see out from a little slit, lmao. he got a few minutes of play with No1 son (that's not Atrix btw) while the glue gun heated up. hmmm - I may look for a box of his own for him - as he is so fond of them.0 -
Aaahh cats and their boxes, I love watching them with a box or a lid and is it just mine or do all cats think that they can fit in any size box? Sam really doesn't mind if his bum is hanging over the end or his belly is bulging, so so funny x0

When I went to one of the war museums a few years ago in Jersey or quite possibly Guernsey, they had the tank version made up for display. I would've been so so tempted, but there was no way my cat would have fitted into it. Obviously now everyone is doing them, you can find them cheaper, but if I had a cat like Maru (just a lot more slender!) then I'd totally get one. I fear the Bengal at my parents would trash it, and the rescue would just sit on it.
Regarding cat nip. There are "strains" and different types of catnip. For a long time I always thought my cat was the cat who didn't get bothered by it. He never went nuts with it, showed mild interest in leaves of the real plant. However. I discovered the internet and the various types of it.
There are some my cat definitely is now highly addicted to, and others that the cat couldn't care any less about. Kong catnip and catnip based products is one he just has no interest in along with generic catnip from places like pets at home (who also strongly favour Kong products).
Throw some Yeowww branded ones at him, and it's a whole different matter.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yeowww-Tin-Stinkies-Sardine-Pack/dp/B00198RKEG (you can also buy a single one, but the tin was so cute!) and

addiction, pure and simple with these. When Tribbles goes over to visit parents, he homes in on that banana instantly, and he has sardines at his home. They last forever (just wait till they dry a bit and squidge up to refresh)
He might not have found his ideal catnip strainAlso people do compare it to cannabis for humans, so whilst it send some cats bonkers, it can also be soothing, relaxing, and can be medicinal is so much as cannabis (or rather it's breakdown of it) can be pain relieving, so a cat nip bath/wipe down probably mellows him out a bit, and no doubt, anything on his itchy bits will help too.
