Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

Sorry I was missing for a few days, I was on holiday and couldn't get internet access. I understand exactly about being ignored, we arrived back this morning and neither of mine were exactly friendly! In fact charlie is driving us nuts at the moment and any help would be appreciated....a few months ago we bought 2 leather recliners and apparently cats think leather chairs are actually giant litter trays in disguise  Anyway we bought a spray from pets at home and it totally neutralised the smell but I don't trust her and have a cats bed on one chair and of all things my sons space hopper on the other one when we're not using them. Came home today to discover she has pee'd on the floor between the seats and hubby ain't a happy man which I understand but I just don't know what else to do....any thoughts?
Oh dear jet lag has caught up with me, off to bed!0 -
put small bowls of food on chairs and between them? on the principle that cats don't pee or poo where they eat? its a real problem nonnie! wish you luck!0

Meri, if it makes you feel better, I'm the bad books of all 3 of my brood today. I asked DH a few days ago if we still had some cat biscuits in the cupboard as the tub was getting low. "Oh yes!" he replied. Ermm... "Oh no" I found out, last night, was the correct answer. So poor kitties are "starving" today, had to give them more pouches but they're still not happy!
Nonnie, is this a new bad habit of Charlie's or has he been doing it for a while?0 -
ah his missus - its the well known 'Husband cannot calculate how much is left and how long it will last' syndrome'! If there is only ONE teabag left in canister and I ask if we need teabags - OH will say 'no, there is some there! I don't bother asking him now - I would rather be overstocked than run out.
Not quite so warm today - but still quite acceptable to Barnes - at least he didn't have a gale force breeze to ruffle his fur! and as the sun hits the living room from midday and it soon gets quite hot through the French doors - I was able to leave them open for him. so more 'chasing wasps, bees and flies in and out'! The look on his face if they 'escape' out of the living room is funny. its not so funny if they fly in the kitchen and land on the window - as in his enthusiasm for the 'hunt' he just jumps on the worktops knocking over anything in his way! I do wish though that when he does 'bring one down' - he kills it himself rather than stunning it, batting it about and then leaving me to administer the 'coup de grace'! a 'squeamish cat'?0 -
Hi his missus, it only started when we bought the new furniture and she did it right in front of us so obviously thought it was perfectly acceptable!
I've put out a small bowl of dried food onto the floor between the seats at the moment and we'll see how that goes....thanks for the tip xx0 -
I have to wonder nonnie whether the furniture has been 'treated' in some way which makes her think 'ah - Toilet'!
I noticed Barnes sat on the low inside garden wall, staring intently out of the gate so wandered out to see what he was looking at. This little gray and white cat was sat outside it. hmmmm - Barnes has a visitor. I don't recognise this cat - but people are moving in and out of the 'rentals' all the time. The cats stayed where they were for about twenty minutes - just staring intently at each other. then they both got up together and the little gray/white continued up the lane and Barnes moved to his 'usual spot' on the decking. How intriguing - were they 'communicating silently' or sizing each other up?
The grandgirls having a sleepover tonight - which is why I am rather late posting. Just got them to sleep. Barnes is still in with them.0 -
I think your right, someone else mentioned to me that leather is treated with something but I've put the dried foot out and it seems to be working, only problem is that 'fat sam' ain't getting any thinner!
I assume there wasn't any growling or animosity between both cats? It definitely sounds like communicating then, wouldn't it be great to read their minds lol xx0 -
hi nonnie - no, no animosity at all. they just stared at each other the whole time. both of them sat in the same position - body, head and ears alert, eyes almost unblinking, no sign of aggression. then they both yawned, stood up and walked off! I felt it was 'silent communication'. perhaps Barnes was welcoming the cat or inviting him/her for tea?
if sofa has been treated - then perhaps wiping it with scented leather wipes will remove the smell? but if the dry food is working then - it costs nothing.
I really meant to post last night! I came online and read a few threads, decided to watch BGT, but to go over and get a takeaway for supper at 8.00 - its the rubbish acts first and I knew the Chinese would be empty!
enjoyed my supper - but twenty minutes later I couldn't stop yawning - was stretched out watching the end of the show and couldn't keep my eyes open! had to unplug the puter and go to bed. got up at least three or four times for a big glass of water. I suspect Mr W was rather heavy handed with the MSG!
Barnes seemed to think I was poorly too - he hardly left my side all night.
Havent seen the little gray/white cat today - Barnes has had a lovely day in garden - except when I babysat Ava for a while. and he got curious went over to her, got too close and she grabbed him! he gently put his paw on her hand and pushed, but I was already prising her fingers off. she still had a nice ball of cat fur in her hand though! lol - Barnes kept his distance after that!0 -
Thanks for the tips!
Aaww poor Barney, what a lovely nature he has to be so tender, he really is a wee smasher, I'm sure him and Ava will grow up to be best friends. I've managed to come down with a lovely head cold (I blame the plane!) and sammy just wants to lie right beside me or on top of me...as lovely as it sounds unfortunately it's really just for his comfort, I'm quite sure if my arm was hanging off he would still expect to be petted lol xx0 -
Nonnie, when I had a cold recently, Scrappy insisted on sleeping on my chest with his tail under my nose and then he'd look at me disgusted when I coughed and woke him up!0
