Lovely to have you back!
Cats really are very intuitive, it's great that he's looking after you, glad your on the mend and hopefully you'll be back to full fitness before Christmas xx0 -
Hi meri,
Hope you're feeling better now. Sleep is great for helping us recover from viruses so sleep all you need x
Scrappy has gone back to Grandma's until Christmas. He has his booster in Jan and I want him looking better before we go to the vets. I don't want to keep giving him the Ovarid so I'm hoping a week or so with mum will break his over grooming cycle. On the plus side, he has no fleas (unlike the other two) probably because he's not got enough hair!0 -
thanks nonnie and his missus. I didn't have a virus 'tummy bug' though - it was Campylobacter. Food poisoning - and for the life of me cannot think how it happened. filled in the public health peoples form - but honestly could not remember what meals I had eaten in most of the 10 days previous to becoming sick. It was nearly three weeks ago! I do know I hadn't had a takeaway or eaten out though - and I don't eat ready meals so at least it wont be a public health issue.
I hope Scrappy gets better at grandmas, his missus. when they look so bad you ALWAYS feel guilty in the vets don't you? even though it isn't your fault!
had another relapse last night - so didn't get much sleep. I did read on tinternet it can take time to recover fully so am not too worried. its just dam inconvenient - I need to catch up on Christmas shopping!
Barnes had a lovely morning in and out of the garden - but it rained this afternoon. so he supervised my knitting instead (I am sure he thinks I don't notice that he bats the ball of yarn off the settee, so he can go 'retrieve' it for me!).
did his G&T including tummy area - he is getting better about that! he 'allows' it now, but I must not take too long about it or he is off!
he seems to think I should have gone to bed already, he is halfway up the stairs waiting for me!
he wont have long to wait! finishing this post now, going to turn off puter and get off to bed- after my cuppa tea.0 -
I had that last year, really nasty. My diarhea was so bad I literally couldn't risk leaving the house at all. After all the nasty bit was over I still had to force myself to eat and didn't enjoy food for weeks. And the pains stayed for weeks too, eventually went back to doctor and he prescribed buscopan.
I didn't have to fill in any forms about where I'd eaten. The doctor just rang and told me what I had and it came from chicken. I suspected a chinese take away I'd had a couple of days before. This Chinese had been there for a long time, but it had closed down by the end of the year so I wonder if there had been problems with other people. I didn't report anything.
Truly sympathise Meritaten. You'll probably get cramps and have no apetite for a while, and your tum won't like you eating chicken again0 -
yes madrhino - just when you think you're over it - it comes back to bite you on the bum! I now stock a large supply of Loperamide (Imodium). Just in case it lasts more than a few hours.
I had eaten chicken before becoming ill - but so had OH and three grandkids and they were fine!
You are also right about not fancying food - I am scared to eat, to tell the truth, and have to force myself now to try and eat 'normally'.
anyway, today I felt well enough to go and do some Christmas shopping (I knew exactly where the loos were located at the outlet and those available 'en-route'!lol) so Barnes was left 'home alone'. got back to find his toys scattered over the living room! he has never done that before............I may find one toy out of his basket - but not five or six! poor darling prob couldn't make up his mind - but I do wish he would learn to put them back!
Last night I shut the computer down, finished my cuppa and went to bed..................Barnes was sat on bed and started squeeking at me in a very high-handed manner! ok ok - I got into bed, he walked up to my head, patted it and walked over it and down the bed behind me. settled down by my kidneys, then changed his mind and settled on my feet. good - they were freezing!
I woke a couple of hours later, feeling thirsty I got up and went downstairs for a drink of water - noticing how clear the night sky was I decided to go in porch to star gaze for a few minutes and have my drink. came back in, went back to bed and 'Yoooooowwwwwwwl' from downstairs. which didn't let up. after a minute or so I got up to see what was upsetting him - and found him in porch - I had trapped him in there by shutting the middle door. let him in, and lord, was he annoyed with me! he sulked in the living room all night! I didn't even realise he had come downstairs and was in the porch with me!
still, he is now waiting for me at the top of the stairs. I wont be too late because not only did I do some of my own Christmas shopping this morning - we took Atrix's kids to do thiers. its a sort of Christmas tradition now, we take the girls to get their mum and dads Christmas presents after school on the last Tuesday of term. when they finish their shopping we go to McDs. its a once a year thing, so I don't feel guilty at giving them junk food! then we go back to my house for present wrapping and they take them home to put under the tree. So I am absolutely shattered now!0 -
From what I understand (read up on it when had it) Campylobacter is present on about 60% of chicken and is killed by cooking, so maybe you had a piece that hadn't been cooked properly or had been contaminated by touching uncooked chicken.
Baked potato was the only thing I could stomach for a while.
Sounds like Barney is still sticking to you like glue :-)0 -
had a busy day today. Had an early start so the getting up at stupid o clock came in handy. Had to get to Crematorium by 9.00am so left house at 8.00 to pick up Atrix. it was my Aunts funeral so I was rather upset. dreading it actually - her and my mum had been estranged for years so wasn't sure of our 'welcome'. Mum didn't go - Thank god! but, we (myself and OH, my sis DD, DS1 & 2) were warmly received - my bro had remained close to Aunt and had helped look after her during her long illness. So he was ok, but this has caused probs between him and mum and...................oh its a long sad stupid story! suffice to say we stayed at the wake longer than planned so Barnes was on his own all morning!
came home, then had the pleasure of minding Ava for a couple of hours while parents went to watch GS2 in his Christmas play.
Barnes still watched the baby while pretending to ignore her presence! he got his G&T a bit late because he preferred to wander in and out the garden. Still, I seem now to be forgiven for shutting him in the porch as he has come up and licked my forehead a few times this afternoon and evening.
he has taken to waiting for me to go to bed rather early now! he is on top of the stairs and he wont have long to wait again, as I am drained.
honestly, I am going to bed earlier than most kids! but I just cant seem to stay up later. still, I guess that will sort itself out in time.0 -
Glad the funeral went ok and I'm glad the family problems were kept out of it.
How lovely babysitting Ava, they aren't that small for very long and they are just adorable!
Heading to bed early as well, they is just so much to do at this time of year xx0 -
Barnes had the house to himself again this morning! had to pop down to Cardiff to get the majority of the grandkids pressies. Hope I have got it all now except for the little gifts I like to give my grown up kids (they all requested money). as it isn't Christmas without a few surprise gifts is it?
Feeling much better today and not quite so tired. I may even stay up until gone 10.00pm!!!!!!!!!!!rofl
Barnes has sensed this, so of course after G&T he fished out a ping pong ball. so we played pingponguppastairs!
he then went out in garden and stayed out even though it started tipping down. he wasn't too happy about being dried off with a towel after he came in - but I wasn't taking any chances considering how ill he was the last time he got his fur wet!
right now he is madly chasing the plastic seal from OHs bottle of wine round the house! enjoying himself hugely. the seal is putting up a hell of a fight but I think Barnes is getting the upper hand!0 -
Hi Meri. Sorry to hear of your Aunty's passing. Hope you are ok.
Scrappy is back home after a very short stay at grandma's. He was still riving his hair out and throwing up hairballs and it was starting to stress mum so he's back home and back on the Ovarid
Tikka loves chasing bits of rubbish around the kitchen - currently it's a cutoff of red glitter foam that missed going in the bin.0
