This means we don't qualify for benefits. If we don't get benefits, I thought that that means we can't get NHS dental care. Please can anybody advise?
Anyone can get NHS dental care. To be fair, the "cook" as we referred to her, done a brilliant spotted !!!!!! and custard. Also the beef stew & mash is something I've copied for years.
However, even in the seventies those who were on "welfare" had to take what ever was left. Still makes me angry :mad:AKA; Mad, MM, MM5, Madicles  ©

Went to Dentists today. She did a check up. I thought that meant that she was going to check the gap where she'd pulled a tooth out last week. But this was a full check up. Afterwards, she told me I needed the following:
A deep gum clean - £400.00 (yes, FOUR HUNDRED, Not FORTY!)
I needed a replacement root canal in another tooth followed by a replacement crown and filling - £1,900
I will also have to have another wisdom tooth out at some stage (the one she did a filling on).
All in all? I'm exhausted. I'm in pain, not tooth ache, but purse ache!
Today, I only had to pay £43.00 - for two x-rays and a check up.
My sister had a problem with a tooth where the dentist left part of his equipment in her tooth during a root canal and she went elsewhere for a second opinion and was quoted £800.00 for the deep gum clean. She went back to her dentist who said that was mad and he finished it off as planned for £200.00. So it may be right. BTW there are nhs dentists around. Where i live there is a company called APD that takes NHS patients0 -
You can get NHS dental care, but you have to pay for treatment. It is not a benefit and is not means tested.
There are three bands of payments, depending on the treatment you need. I just googled this - you need to get registered at an NHS dentist.
NHS dental charges
Dentistry is one of very few NHS services you have to pay for. This section explains what you will have to pay for and when you may not have to pay.
All the treatment that your dentist believes is necessary to achieve and maintain good oral health is available on the NHS. This means that the NHS provides any treatment you need to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy and free of pain.
Depending on what you need to have done, you should only ever be asked to pay one charge for each complete course of treatment, even if you need to visit your dentist more than once to finish it. You will not be charged for individual items within the course of treatment.
There are three standard charges for all NHS dental treatments:
•Band 1 course of treatment – £18.00
This covers an examination, diagnosis (including X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.
•Band 2 course of treatment – £49.00
This covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or removal of teeth.
•Band 3 course of treatment – £214.00
This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2 above, plus crowns, dentures and bridges.
See below for a list of dental treatments in each band.
If your dentist says you need a particular type of treatment, you should not be asked to pay for it privately. Find out more about what’s available on the NHS.
Urgent care
If you need urgent care, even if your urgent treatment requires more than one appointment at the same dentist to complete, you will only need to pay one Band 1 charge. Read more detailed information about dental emergencies.
Izzeyb. You have just made my day. I have been feeling really down since getting back from the dentist. I just thought that in order to get NHS dental care, you had to be on benefits. Don't ask me where I read or heard that, but I took it as gospel, so did not even bother to check. Thank you. You are a STAR! I will do some research on dentists in the area that offer NHS.

Yogurt Queen, go to google, type in: finding a NHS dentist in .........(wherever your area is). In my case it takes to to the Health trust, which then asks for my post code, and lists up dentists. You may then have to have a ring around, but I am sure you will find one. In our area, there isn't a problem.
Also, word of mouth. Have a word with neighbours or work colleagues to ask about their dentist.0 -
