Audi dealer query

I've been looking for a new car this year and have yet to find one that'll give me the combination of performance & economy that I can get from one of the German marques.
I was seriously considering the highly successful Kia Sportage earlier in the year or the new Pro Ceed but in the end I had to rule them out because they don't yet have the engines to match VAG or BMW (I'm sure this will change in the years to come), not many manufacturer's can which is why the likes of VW & BMW are so successful.
The new Golf comes with a 1.6D 105/110ps or 2.0D 150ps.
The Kia Ceed 1.6D has 128ps (126bhp), is chain driven, has no DPF or indeed other reliability issues and is quieter and generally 'less agricultural'. It has low emissions too (£0 VED), and doesn't burn oil.
(for the record, a Sportage 2.0D can be bought with 184ps (181bhp)
So, please tell us more about how they don't have 'engines to match'?
p.s. I accept that BMW make some monstrous 3.0D models, but I am assuming that these aren't what you are talking about? I actually quite like Beemers, believe it or notAnd that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
I drool over the 3 litre BMW diesels I have to say0

Whilst distance selling regulations will protect your deposit, if you decide the car isn't for you, I would personally tell them that if they want you to consider buying the car, you need to be able to view it without paying a deposit.
They probably don't actually own it, and are getting it off another dealer.
Conclusion : Tell them to "Do one"0 -

Is there a Kia Ceed engine, for example, that can match the figures of the VAG 1.4 TFSI petrol or the 2.0 (150ps) Tdi?
Does the Ceed have a 2L 180ps diesel, no, VAG do (and BMW for that matter).
You mention the Kia 1.6 (126ps) diesel, does that compare favourably with the performance and economy of the Bluemotion Golfs 1.6 110ps? I don't think so.
Oh, and yes the Sportage does have a 184ps diesel but whilst the performance is OK, economy isn't and VED is high.0 -
Everything sells. Its just the price it sells at is up for debate.
If you buy cheap, you can afford to sell cheap too i guess.
True.
Remember what happened to Daewoo when they went bust? Perfectly serviceable vehicles, around 4 or 5 years old, which wouldn't sell for much more than £500.
Ironically, the self same cars with 12 months' ticket still fetch around £300, so anyone savvy enough to buy one then and run it into the ground (kept serviced obviously) pretty much got the bargain of the century.
Doesn't help the poor !!!!!!s who bought new though.0 -
Please tell me that you don't consider Dacia a direct competitor?
Hyundai-Kia are now World's #4 (and probably fastest growing), Dacia are a budget brand using primarily obsolete Renault parts to produce the cheapest most basic form of transport, largely for poorer countries.
There is NO WAY you would buy yourself a Dacia, you made the above comment to belittle H-K.
I think all H-K have proved is that you cant build class competitive cars cheap. Their cars are pretty much up to the class standard now compared to say 10 years ago but their prices are up there too.
I would also have concerns about the resaleability of a 5 year old Kia with say 125K miles on it, whereas i know the Golf will still sell easily.
Dacia, well its a cheap car in the first place. Drive it to 125K miles and its practically disposable.0 -
True.

You only lose money when you sell it though.
I think a lot of SAAB and Rover owners made the mistake of bailing very quickly and then took collosal loses, whereas if they'd just driven on their cars wouldnt have been worth much less than they got when prices bombed.0 -
TradePro, how come on another thread you're quite happily advocating someone buying an Alfa Romeo, which by anyones standards are off the mark in terms of "best in class", fuel economy, residuals, part prices and reliability?
You're coming across - and by your own admission - as anti german car, moreso that pro japanese.
Surely thats just as prejudiced as someone being "pro german" in their car choice?0
