Damage to alloy

they are saying because they couldnt get the object out they had to remove tyre and that caused the scratch - it couldnt be avoided.
Yet they accepted the job (& all that comes with it) without warning you that damage was "unavoidable"?

The car was vibrating like crazy - we initially called the AA as I have breakdown with them... I forgot about BMW Assist.
He diagnosed problem with the flat tire and discussed why didnt the TPS system not activated..
We spoke with BMW and they said we should contact BMW Assist which is part of the 3 year guarantee which gives you free recovery to garage and a courtesty car while it is resolved.
The the saga started...........0 -

So you took it for a repair. With no spare what did you expect them to do?0 -

I guess he expected them to show a bit of common sense, not to mention professionalism, to attempt to pull out the object before taking the tyre of the rim, or at the very least cover the rim surface if it was going to be obvious that a scrape would occur.
If they pulled it out the tyre would have gone down.
And?
Remember he didn't authorise them to remove the tyre.0 -
This looks to me like the scratch is on the outside of the wheel. Is this right?
If this is the case then there is no problem with the tyre sealing onto the rim. And it is simply cosmetic, so can be refurbished by a competent person.
I'm struggling to see how this damage could have been caused by the screwdriver bit. In my opinion the dealership caused the damage. The scratch is on the inside of the wheel, where you wouldn't expect it to come into contact with the screwdriver bit.0 -

Which way does the tyre come off?0 -
the alloy is diamond cut - it costs £700 to replace and ?? to repair with bmw
i am not happy they damage my alloy and then say because its unusual i have to pay for the damage they caused because they couldnt get the item out of my tyre... my friends said they should have been able to get it out as its in the tread or if they couldnt should have been careful to avoid damage
pictures below :-
If they had attempted to remove the screwdriver bit, then I would expect to see some scuffing on the outside surface of the tyre. But there doesn't appear to be any.
I would also expect there to be some burring on the screwdriver bit where the had gripped it to try and pull it out. But again there doesn't appear to be any.0 -
I don't understand what the bickering is about?
The wheel went in unmarked & came out scratched, the dealership admits to doing it... all the hows, whys, if & buts don't change that.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
They caused the damage. There is nothing more to it than that. Even if it had been unavoidable they'd be liable unless you agreed to doing it. The fact that is was clearly not unavoidable makes their position totally untenable. I would demand very loudly, at the front desk, that they pay in full for a refurb, and refuse to leave until they agree. Also, post details of the dealership if you haven't already.
