Because they obviously didn't pull the offending item out of the tyre BEFORE attempting to take the tyre off the rim. Total absence in common sense if you ask me.

Total absence indeed. But to then say the car owner was liable. Ridiculous. Pliers must be hard to come by in BMW dealers!

You can't get thicker than a Kwik fit fitter ;)

Take 'em to the cleaners. Don't settle for less than £100k anguish, suffering and personal distress either

It was a BMW dealer, do you actually read threads before posring?

Yeah, most main dealers pop tyre repairs and the like round to local kwik fit garage (unless they have their own on site kwik fit facility) ;)

Similarly they usually take cars to Autoglass (or equivilent) or get them round for glazing repairs. Grease monkeys just change the oil and grease the parts that need greasing ... and make a right mess of trying to re-upholster a seat :D

Tell them you want a new wheel as that's what they suggested it needed and that the cost will be down to them.

I'm failing to see the reasons they have for denying liability?

You took an undamaged wheel to them for a simple job & they damaged it, end of!

Like some posters have said, stand your ground & demand they either refurbish to your satisfaction or replace the wheel at their cost.

they are saying because they couldnt get the object out they had to remove tyre and that caused the scratch - it couldnt be avoided.

    I will tell them:-

    a. i didnt authorise you to take tyre off car
    b. if there was any risk of damage you should have told me
    c. im sure that there could have been a way to avoid having a sharp object scratching alloy - just making excuses..........

They are just trying to palm the expense to me when they have made a mistake i feel...

I am not going to accept the goodwill - infact its angered me that they say they are still not accepting liability.

I will speak with the dealer principle myself Monday and give him a piece of my mind.

Also not happy that the TPS system didnt kick in - if that happened on motorway it could have caused a fatal accident. They are fobbing me off saying the puncture was so fast it didnt recognise it. I have read that the monitoring system is based on rotational speed - feel that it should have activated......

So why did you take it to the dealer?
