Redoing very small ensuite bathroom

Personally, the quote looks fair. Presumably it can be amended depending on your choice of tiles and sanitaryware.
I would be more worried about the quality of the work. See previous jobs, try and get personal recommendations. Do you trust the guy and feel you can work with him/her. THose things are far more important to me. I would happily pay 1k over the odds if I knew that the job would be spot on.0 -

Oh how did I miss this little gem ?
It's far too late in the day to comment because this two-bit tradesman has to be up at 4-30, however rest assured i will tomorrow, oh btw I'm nowhere near as polite as KSI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

You can say what you like, just because you think I am wrong doesn't make (a) you correct or (b) me care and more or less than I do now, which is pretty much zero to be honest - I've given my opinion, equally valid as any other. You value mine about as much as I will value yours.
I hope you enjoyed getting up at 4:30am. I got up at 8:45am to arrive in my home office next door to my bedroom to get paid to work in my PJs

OK then so please explain how:somethingcorporate wrote: »Given you invented the insults I am happy for you to invent the apology.
Quite clearly suggesting that I am stupid for suggesting it and;somethingcorporate wrote: »Suggesting that builders/fitters/tilers etc need to make a margin on materials is stupid.
and;somethingcorporate wrote: ».........I don't have much insight into how two-bit tradespeople work.............
are anything but deliberately insulting? Or do you just not read what you write?somethingcorporate wrote: »...........and not listen to folks who's job it is to talk up the rate of their profession...........
No it was because you are wrong. Such is not a matter of opinion but a matter of fact. If I disagree with an opinion I would say so - you'll find that I do.Edit: Pretty sure it was you that laid into everything I said because you disagreed.
No need unless you feel that defending myself requires me to apologise afterwards. Otherwise I have nothing to apologise for.I'll invent an apology from you too.
Cheers
PS Have you yet worked out that completing in 5 elapsed days almost certainly does not equate to 5 man-days labour? The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0 -

Here you go keystone - the definition of the word need that sat in the middle of my post you keep quoting.
The fact you yourself confirmed there are times you've used the customers purchased materials and I have too means there is absolutely no requirement, necessary duty, or obligation for a tradesman to add a margin onto their purchased materials to make a profit.
Just because you say something is a fact does not make it so. I know plenty of self-employed people (tradespeople and other service-based traders/staff) that do not add margins onto their material expenditure and somehow manage to make a living based just on their labour rate.
The comparison you had to a coffee shop that sells goods and not services is completely fallacious since there is no income stream also derived from the service (unless of course you include tips, but hardly a fair comparison to where you pay someone predominantly for the service or skills they provide). Ultimately your argument is quite a strawman, your insults are still completely made up.
I can understand how 5 days does not equal 5 man days, given it is a small en-suite I find it highly unlikely that there are going to be concurrent jobs being done, in fact often quite the opposite as the screed, adhesive and grout needs to dry, precluding the ability to do any work in the room let alone having 2 people working alongside each other. Can you see how 5 elapsed days does not necessarily equate (or mean more than) 5 days labour? My bathroom took 8 or so days to do - only paid for the 4 or so days that he actually spent in there able to do the work.
Still, you have your opinion and I have mine.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

£9000 for renovation of 2000 sq. ft. house all in. What is being done?
Any photos?
OP: a good price for the Midlands for a quality job but get others for comparison.0 -
So what? Who are you to dictate how people run their businesses? If someone wants to recover 85% of his overheads on his labour and 15% on materials that is his choice if thats the way he is able to be competitive. Need doesn't come into it.somethingcorporate wrote: »Just because you say something is a fact does not make it so. No they are YOUR insults. Plain as the day is long and it is those which upset me. I tried to draw a line under it earlier up the thread but no you have to keep bringing it back up denying you ever wrote what you wrote and which I have clearly quoted. This is now the issue and your diversionary tactics and continued denials are not going to make it go away.your insults are still completely made up.
Brilliant. At last I'm getting through. That is precisely why you cannot divide the quoted labour cost by 5 and come up with a spurious day rate and use it to attempt to score silly points.I can understand how 5 days does not equal 5 man days, given it is a small en-suite I find it highly unlikely that there are going to be concurrent jobs being done, in fact often quite the opposite as the screed, adhesive and grout needs to dry, precluding the ability to do any work in the room let alone having 2 people working alongside each other.
Agreed and we have done the overheads business to death but its not that that has become issue. Its the insults you have thrown in expressing it and your state of denial over having written them.Still, you have your opinion and I have mine.

Focus on some again made up insults - none of the things you have quoted were even remotely directed at you.
You are correct, need does not come into it, which is why precisely I put that a contractor does not NEED to add overheads onto his materials - they have the option not to and to suggest they need to is completely false. It appears you are agreeing with me!
Just because you take offense at some words does not make it offensive!Thinking critically since 1996....0
