    I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning all.

little_sweetie - sorry for not congratulating you yesterday. 42 years will be a rarity I think in the future. Only 8 years to go for the BIG 1. lol
Foodbanks - I do a mix of basics and Sainsbury's basics are quite good. Tinned potatoes, tea-bags, jam, rice etc. Tesco cornflakes are also good. My philosophy is, the more I can help the better, rather than just a few with more expensive branded stuff.
I'm donating my final 4 large boxes of stuff today and need to decide whether to continue next year.
I have access to the Nestle factory shop now and can pick up boxes of "branded" cereal for under 40p per box, so may concentrate on mainly that for donations.
I keep an eye out for clearance bargains and pick up as much as possible when cheap.

Need so basics myself today, so hopefully a few £'s to pot later.
Hubby wants some beer bargains from Tesco.

    Catch up later.

I'm sure the people that use the food banks don't care how branded the food
is as long as it's food. And it's far better, as you say, to donate a higher
quantity than quality. There is nothing wrong with own-brand. Sometimes it's
    better!

Thanks crimson I'm hoping that is the case....

Thanks rosy, Kerry woman & ModestyB for your good wishes, 42 years does seem a long time but the years are flying by faster than ever  I have a feeling that our dear Sue-uu has an anniversary coming up too. I hope I haven't missed it
Happy Anniversary to you and dear T ( if appropriate) but my memory could be playing tricks?

We are taking dear FiL out to lunch today but he has decided he wants to go and pre-pay his funeral expenses as well  I'm not sure how I feel about that but he must have been mulling it over for a while and as he is already 91 he must feel it appropriate. He's being very MSE because he read that the cost of funerals is due to spiral and wants to fix now. Oh dear...I don't want to think about it...:(

Have a lovely day all x

Hiya Nell, fingers crossed for surgery being done before Christmas, but you're right in that if it's going to make you feel rough or similar afterwards then it's best to wait and enjoy Christmas first. :xmassmile You sound as though you have great courage, keep it going. :)
Firstly let me say - I'm Potting another £10.06....so that TAKES ME OVER THE £200 MARK!!!!! :j :T :j

Secondly...a question for you Sue....I've saved over £200....but Banked £35 of that....so do you want me to put the Total as the figure that is NOT Banked...and then put the Banked Figure in Brackets? At the moment I've left it as the Total total...If that made ANY sense whatsoever!! LoL :rotfl:.

Congratulations Helen!!!!! :j:T:j By golly you've done fantastically well and I'm so very proud of you!! :D To answer your question: Please pop the £35 banked on your siggy as exactly that (£35 banked), the rest you'll declare n opening day and sparky will have already included your £35 on his spreadsheet. Then.....keep right on saving hard and the entire total could easily be £235! Whatever it is, Helen, I know you'll be so ecstatic about it and rightly so! You've done marvellously!

Well done, Willow!!! I know it's not a lot to many of us, but I know it is huge to you! :D
It's been a few days sinceIlast posted so I've had to whizz through lots of posts...sorry...:( will try to read them later.

When I did the shopping this week I found a pound coin left in the trolley by a forgetful shopper :D and, as I had received a 26p coupon off my next shop, I decided to buy something for the food bank as there is a trolley for donations by the door in Sainsb*rys. I managed to get 7 items for just under £1.90. I must admit that I felt a bit mean buying Value tins of soup, veg, jam, chopped pork, UHT milk etc but thought 7 Value items would do more good than, say, a pack of branded teabags for the same price. I buy Value items for myself too so I know they are perfectly acceptable to eat. Anyway, I'm potting less than I could have done but it's still a very nice 56p left from the food budget.

Today is our 42nd wedding anniversary and DD has treated us to a very nice lunch... nom nom.....

Happy potting all and good luck Nell x

Many congratulations to you both, little_sweetie!!!! :T :bdaycake: I'm so sorry I missed it yesterday, but the wishes from T and I mean just the same. You're right in that T & I have ours in January so know you've not missed it. I don't know about you, but it's almost unbelievable as though it was in another lifetime at times. You two take care and keep safe and healthy in each others love. BTW, it's wonderful what you're doing with the food banks, they'll be so grateful for the feed. I give what I can knowing they're a darn sight worse off.

Be honest and up front, dinglefoot, the same as you'd wish from him. ;) I hope the OU tutorial goes well.

Keep strong and saving what you can, emmita.

I really hate hearing that, the pressure at Xmas can get a lot into financial problems. We've cut right back as a family now and only give each family (adults) a box of biscuits or similar and a bottle of wine. We get the same back (or similar), so it all seems a waste of time. lol
I suppose the supermarkets benefit though!! :D

That's one of the good things with this thread (if you are able), it gives the opportunity to budget for Xmas. Though we will all differ with amounts needed due to family sizes and what we spend on each person.
We're lucky now as no small kids to sort out and generally around £500 covers all presents. For the last few years we always have been one year in front, rather than trying to pay for the "Xmas debt", which is a continuous burden for some.

    Lynsey

You didn't moan at all, Lynsey, and I quite agree re thinking it's so sad that so many folk live in fear of Christmas coming as it should never be like that. I know you say you all give much the same, but it doesn't matter as it's the art of giving that counts. :) I really do hope that most of us budget as best we're able to, that's what's important to do what we can no matter what. I remember someone saying "We're all in this together", sickening isn't it when their sort don't feel a thing and don't have a clue of many of us live. Never mind - Chins up folks, we'll not be beaten.

Thrifty Fashionista, you've done right in letting family and friends know you can only do what's possible. Anyone worth half a light will understand - and probably be so grateful! :happyhear

Hiya salduck, good to hear you're still potting well, sounds as though you're doing well too. Keep it up.

1p from hubby's pocket, but I'm happy enough with that - for now! :D
Have a GREAT Friday, folks. Keep saving hard and know that every penny counts!!

  • Evening all :hello:

A lovely £1 potted which is change from dear FiL's lunch out today. He sorted out his pre-paid funeral as planned, which is costing him just under £3000  the dear man had even written out a little ditty to put in the local paper after he has gone. It brought a lump to my throat when he produced it out of his pocket

    Evening all.

Got my £3 today and actually potted £3.20 and reached the £600 milestone. I'll still go hoping to reach £700 and probably need another £60- £70 to get there with the uncounted part £'s.

little_sweetie - another tip re foodbank cheap stuff. Check the Lidl half-price weekend offers like the uht milk for 26p per litre. They always seem to need milk and 26p is cheap. 17p chocolate if you can part with it. lol
Jam and biscuits are cheap in Lidl and Aldi also.
My stuff was dropped off today and nice to see they were well stocked. They do well over the Xmas time, probably down to "guilt donations", but they also receive large donations from local businesses.
Sad they need to exist, but every little donation helps.
