It's been a few days sinceIlast posted so I've had to whizz through lots of posts...sorry...:( will try to read them later.
When I did the shopping this week I found a pound coin left in the trolley by a forgetful shopperand, as I had received a 26p coupon off my next shop, I decided to buy something for the food bank as there is a trolley for donations by the door in Sainsb*rys. I managed to get 7 items for just under £1.90. I must admit that I felt a bit mean buying Value tins of soup, veg, jam, chopped pork, UHT milk etc but thought 7 Value items would do more good than, say, a pack of branded teabags for the same price. I buy Value items for myself too so I know they are perfectly acceptable to eat. Anyway, I'm potting less than I could have done but it's still a very nice 56p left from the food budget.
Today is our 42nd wedding anniversary and DD has treated us to a very nice lunch... nom nom.....
Happy potting all and good luck Nell xSealed Pot Challenge #012

Nothing to pot today, still skint and wondering how to broach the subject with my OH that I ordered 3 months worth of contact lenses today. Hmm...
Well, they'll last me a long time. I usually wear glasses so I don't have to pay out for contact lenses (I have two pairs I really love - one bright and fun, one more serious)
I've got my first Open University tutorial this weekend, so I'm hoping the contact lenses might come in time for that...I'm feeling rather nervous about it, so need to try and boost my self-confidence in every way possible :rotfl:
The new car (not new new, but new to us) is up and running, which is exciting, but also worrying...we've never had a car before that was worth claiming for on the insurance if anything happened to it (the insurance has previously cost more than our cars have been worth
) and I'm so nervous about anything being wrong with it now we've bought it.
Hope everyone is well, big hugs and smiles to everyonexxx

Ooh, £4.20 is a nice amount to pot
Thanks for reminding me to take a look at my Quidco
It's 12 days until my paydayI'm counting down the days, it needs to come quicker! Even though that pay packet is probably going to disappear just as quickly on a vet's appointment for booster injections for my cat and anything the new car might need done.
Hmm...dreading Christmas once again, purely due to the financial strain. It doesn't help that it's cold now so there will be higher energy bills...I'm braving it best I can for as long as I can, sitting here wearing my coatSPC '21 #0750 -

I really hate hearing that, the pressure at Xmas can get a lot into financial problems. We've cut right back as a family now and only give each family (adults) a box of biscuits or similar and a bottle of wine. We get the same back (or similar), so it all seems a waste of time. lol
I suppose the supermarkets benefit though!!
That's one of the good things with this thread (if you are able), it gives the opportunity to budget for Xmas. Though we will all differ with amounts needed due to family sizes and what we spend on each person.
We're lucky now as no small kids to sort out and generally around £500 covers all presents. For the last few years we always have been one year in front, rather than trying to pay for the "Xmas debt", which is a continuous burden for some.
Good luck though to those with big Xmas budgets.
We're not scrooges.
We buy more for birthdays etc and spread it about. Crazy the amount of work that goes in for a few days at Xmas!!
Sorry for my moan. :rotfl:

Lynsey, couldn't agree more re: xmas!
Everyone I know seems broke, but some people moan and then spend more and more. I really cut down last year, and then felt a bit mean when no one else did! I have warned people this year I am on a very strict budget - so will only be getting small pressies. Have even started by getting the odd things in the sales when I spotted offers.

Dinglefoot - once I have this lot of chemo done on Friday, I only have one more to go - yay
It is currently schedule for 8 November but it depends on how quickly I recover from the one that goes in on Friday. Hoping to have next lot of surgery before Christmas, but if it looks like it will be a few days before then I will wait until after the festivities. Then towards end of January I will start radiotherapy (every working day for 4 weeks). I start Herceptin (non chemo drug) on Friday and have to wait at chemo unit for 6 hours after it goes in to see if I have any reaction (it is toxic to the heart). I desperately need to get through a 12 month course of Herceptin to give me a good chance of staying freee from cancer in the longer term. I will have 18 lots of Herceptin across 12 months. Oh and Tamoxifen for 5 years. Not for the faint hearted this stuff, as one of my friends kindly said to me the other day when she asked if I was all done with treatment after chemo
Feeling much, much brighter today and ready for number 5 now.
Gosh Nell, that's an awful lot to go through. I will be thinking of you xxlittle_sweetie wrote: »I must admit that I felt a bit mean buying Value tins of soup, veg, jam, chopped pork, UHT milk etc but thought 7 Value items would do more good than, say, a pack of branded teabags for the same price. I'm sure the people that use the food banks don't care how branded the food is as long as it's food. And it's far better, as you say, to donate a higher quantity than quality. There is nothing wrong with own-brand. Sometimes it's better!
Finally been paid so will be potting what's left in my purse tonight.
Just about to leave work, i'd love to say at least i'm making the most of works heating and not turning mine on but i don't pay for it at home and would rather have it off anyway.... Oh well, late nights mean maybe more pennies for the potDone 12 hours today *yawn* had a 2 hour break though to watch corrie and emerdale haha
