Why do they call it gyp? Is it cos that's what they give you?

    well that is relevant

but also the australian accent saying Gap sounds like gyp. They are based in oz and most of their calls used to be from there. now they have staff elsewhere abroad that are even more incomprehensible most of the time

I find them very polite and helpful, but they do seem to be tightening up on the premiums.

I have also occasionally hit issues with clients, rather than the company, because I told the truth.

I'm almost a year in now, but still find it baffling that mystery shopping clients only want to be told how good they are. Surely the point is to identify issues and resolve them?

Perhaps some companies use the results to show off or base bonuses on them?

This. Especially with franchised companies (like many of Gyp's clients). That's why they fight you tooth and nail over honest reports of bad service - the manager's bonus depends on it.
  • Left my rubbish day job four months ago to do mystery shopping, auditing and merchandising full time. Currently loving it; although the last two months have been pretty much solidly doing the car visits!

The fees are attractive and it is a hell of a lot of hard work, but my pay packets this month have been larger than usual as a result! I think confidence and just blagging are a good help on these jobs.

Loving being able to go home at lunch, walk the dog and then drive five minutes up the road to my next jobs!
  • Nice little bonus today. Did a shop and there was a promo Mars ice cream van in the car park giving out free ice cream bars because a new shop was opening!

They get bonus's based on reports.

I've written bad reports and not had any real issues, one got queried but I just restated what had happened and that was the end of the matter.

I got queries but I had snagged photos of the toilet issues and sent those and got paid.

Oh I remember now, once I got a burnt chip so placed it beside the receipt when I was taking the photo. Good advice to take snaps if you can do so discreetly.

There is one chain of shops that I regularly do if I'm in the area and haven't got enough video work. The mystery shopping company send the client comments through exactly as the client stated them and I find some of the comments very aggressive. Luckily, as I'm fitting these in around video visits, I always video them.

One of them said that they disputed my whole visit as I had refused to sit down, was clearly in a rush and they had CCTV to prove it. But they worded it much more forcefully that this. It was great being able to prove that I had sat down and that they were lying. However, if I wasn't able to video them I think I'd find their comments would put me off doing further jobs.
