Are you able to adjust your expense claim? I've taken a job that's going to make a loss if I claim 45p a mile (as I have for all other jobs). Could I claim say 20p for this (actual cost of petrol, and forget about servicing etc) and then back up to 45p? Otherwise it's going to go through as a loss, which I'm sure they'd be more funny about!

As you don't declare every single job to HMRC rather you just submit your gross total income and expenses, they won't know until you are unlucky enough to get an audit. If you can justify the small loss then you'll be fine.

That's true I guess just go for the 45p like normal. I'm a limited company, so guess that does up my chances of an audit, but in proportion to monthly earnings the loss is small, and the loss of tax (if I was actually a tax payer) is minimal (couple of quid at most).

Do Retail Maxim have an active website at the moment? I haven't heard anything from them for ages.

Nope, they are allocating the old fashioned way, you also need to be in on the inside to get anything worthwhile.

I've just had a few bits off them in the last few months.

They seem to work on sending out emails. In my case about once every two months. They do have a website but nothing seems to get loaded. Not one that's going to make me lots of cash as they either don't have many jobs or I am only seeing jobs they can't shift
Others on this board seem to fair better...

True that. I've been offered a few new clients, actually quite worth while in that they have paid mileage on them too and they all had decent reimbursements. I couldn't say no those visits, would have been daft!

Just out of interest, if you do a visit where they specify you need to be very well dressed, what do people tend to wear? A suit? Pointed shoes? Smart jeans and a smart top? Confused dot com.
