It's no longer a debate when atheists are encouraging members to reject their faith.
You are assuming it is always a bad thing to give up a faith. It can be a wonderful thing to do.

No-one on here has done that. Expressing you own view point is not to encourage others to reject something important to them.

The more you approve of your own decisions in life, the less you feel the need to have them approved or accepted by others.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Who said I was a Christian? Making more assumptions Heartbreak?

    Oops, sorry...

How incredibly un-"religiously benevolent" of you to start slinging personal insults.

    My mistake.

Also, with regards to Fosterdog's post, I think it was another way of saying what a few people on here have - take control for yourself.

I'm not anti-Christian - I'm atheist. I just really don't see the point of any religion or belief in deities at all. I would far rather believe in myself and the ability I have to make changes in my life.

    Days are evil?

    2 Timothy 3:1-4

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

Because there's been some good debating started?

Because the only way to improve your life is to take control and not wait for an invisible being to drop it in your lap?

Because HP is more inspirational than the Bible? EDIT: more inspirational to me.

I think that anyone who can compare the writing in Harry Potter with the majesty of the King James Bible has pretty well lost the debate.

I disagree. The debate is on the issue of positive results purely based on prayer. If one is of the opinion there is no god then obviously praying has no value.

This is no different to those who are have faith claiming positive results are signs that prayer work, and negative results just mean gods listening by has an alternative plan.

My view is like others have mentioned that positive results stem from positive actions taken by you, and only you. You are in complete control of every single thing you do. You as a person are in complete control of every aspect of your life, and you are the one the can alter the path you are on. To rely of prayers, fate or any other random attribute is folly in my opinion.

I don't understand how it relates to the original quote of making the most of every opportunity - what would be the point if the days are evil?

I think that's what I was trying to get across - I'm not comparing, I just find a lot of quotes from other books far more inspirational than the bible. I don't find the bible inspirational at all, in fact.

I thought the KJ translation wasn't an accurate one? My RE teachers at school seemed conflicted on this.

That's true, at least Harry Potter wasn't written by convicted criminals!
