They haven't crossed the line though, you are mistaken in what you heard.
Please find something better to do with your time. You may think you are valiantly defending your point but you are in fact just making yourself look like an idiot. This dead horse is now flogged.0 -
I thought he said corking nora.
Mind you, it's Top Gear, of all the pathetic, infantile and dangerous stuff they've done you find a single word offensive? You are not worried that seeing three grown men behave like teenagers week after week is a good thing for a boy to be watching - making it acceptable behaviour for adult men to take no responsibility for their actions, be destructive imbecilic oafs time and time again? You think this is good for a kid to see and you find one single word offensive?
I enjoy Top Gear, but I think that letting kids watch it is beyond the pale as it giving them really bad role models. Mind you, maybe you want a stupid, misogynistic, racist kid - who am I to judge?0 -
I think the presenters of Top Gear actually look forward to getting complaints. They thrive on it.
Top Gear is so immature and borderline shocking at times. That is, in my opinion what makes it fantastic. I never fail to spend most of the program laughing my cocking pants off.0 -
I watched this on iplayer, you can clearly hear James May say words that rhyme with 'rock' and 'rollocks' MULTIPLE times.
I know this is iPlayer and is different but a family should still be able to sit round using their smart TVs or computer and enjoy it.
No need for bad language in such a fantastic TV show. It spoils it.0 -
I do not feel the words that rhyme with rock and rollocks are classed as offensive language. Especially coming out the mouth of James May.0

IF James May had said the F word before the water shed there would be articles all over the place about people complaining to the ombudsman, like there always is every time Top Gear offends someone, even on the BBC website.
I've seen nothing around about James May saying the F word other than this thread....

Got to say I do love the first few posts of this thread now, arguing about whether the word was (removed by MSE Team) or (removed by MSE Team) which leaves me none the wiser as to what the alternative suggest word was, other than a naughty one lolLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

That is just not true, many intelligent, successful people swear all the time. So you are lying to your child.0 -
Given the frequency with which JD May Esq uses the epithets "cocking about" it seems likely - but I would actually have expected "chuffing" to go with "Nora!".
Hypothesis: He was actually taken by surprise and started to say what sillygoose heard but being a professional broadcaster managed to change it in mid-syllable.I need to think of something new here...0 -

My whole point is I think they crossed the line. Disagree with me by all means but don't look for a deeper agenda as there isn't one.
As to the subtitles.. does anyone think they would type the 'F' word on a pre-watershed program irrespective of what was said? that would be asking for trouble.
THere is no issue here. You are talking about a deeper agenda when you have gone to the trouble of finding a sound file to back up your point when lots of others have proved your initial point wrong.
I suggest you tell your child that the word used was "cocking" and get on with your life.0
